Task force missions
(Note this is a totally OOC post and I am hoping I'm putting it in the right place. Please forgive me my inexperience if I'm not. )
I've been trying to figure out these task force mission things for a while now, and I think I've got it down basically. However, I still have a couple of questions, so I wanted to come to the voices of experience.
Task force missions are group missions that take awhile to complete. Group size must be 3 (or is it 4) or more. They are divided into level ranges, with the first starting at 10 and ending at 16. If you outlevel a particular mission range before completing it, you're out of luck.
All that sound correct so far?
What I don't understand is whether people consider them "worth it" to do. It sounds as though they take a lot of time to complete. I'm not really one to care about experience toward gaining new levels, but I do care about having an enjoyable experience for some reason. So are they worth it as far as advancing in level, as far as having a story to read (and build off of possibly), or any other reason one can come up with?
I ask this now because Briare is level 15, which means she's about to outlevel the Positron task force (I think). Would others say that it is worth trying to find a couple more people to get together with for a few hours to do the mission? (And if so, anyone have characters lvl 10 to 16 that want to join Meiyen and I? ) Or is skipping this particular one and moving on with life a better idea?
A group of people form up, the group leader speaks to the contact (Positron, for example) and he forms it into a Tasf Force. The circle in the center of your experience meter now has the letters TF on it. The group is then presented with a set of missions, an arc if you would.
While the Task Force remains incomplete, you are committed to it. You cannot join other groups, or do any other of your own missions solo. You can hunt randomly, but that's it. The minute you log in you're in group mode for the Task Force. Any folks from the original TF group log on, and they are in the same mode. Any number of people, even a single person, can continue the mission. You can quit the Task Force to group otherwise, but no replacement can be made for you, you cannot recruit into a Task Force.
Is it worth it?
It's a story arc, and an interesting one. It's a good steady source of missions of a particular difficulty level. It opens up new tilesets you haven't seen at that level. You should get a souvenier at the end of it, to show your completion. You may meet an NPC villain you may not ever see otherwise. You don't have to hunt for groups, you're automatically grouped when you log on. There are enhancement rewards particular to Task Force.
It's a nice place to roleplay, but that's true of all of Paragon City.
Re: Task force missions
Outleveling the task force doesn't seem to matter, so long as you don't log out. I know from experience that you can complete a task force with someone who's advanced beyond its cap. I'm guessing that the game checks levels when the group forms -- which happens at the start and after logging in.
They've got good storylines, similar to a regular plot arc but longer and more involved. Usually you fight at least two groups of villains (although Synapse's is all clockwork). It's a good source of experience -- pretty much a guaranteed level, at least in the first two. At the end, you get a single-origin enhancer set to the level of the task force plus three (so 18 for the Positron TF, 23 for Synapse), and an experience bonus. And you do get to fight archvillains and monsters.
They're time-consuming, but they're a cool part of the game. I'm going to try to do all of them.
Re: Task force missions
I've done Positron's and Synapse's on Test server, so far, and preferred Synapse's, storywise. I do consider them worth doing, although you want a really good group, since you'll be stuck together until completion.
Re: Task force missions
Speaking of Task Forces...
I reached level 18 the other day, and after last night's encounter with the Freakshow - thanks, guys! - I'm heading toward 19. I already outleveled Positron's task force, and if I'm not careful, I'll accidentally miss finally completing Synapse's.
If I recall correctly, Briare Thorne and Meiyen are both at level 14. Basically, if you don't start the Task Force tonight, you probably won't be able to finish it without outleveling it.
My recommendation is to put together a small team for it - say, four members. That way, the missions will draw smaller maps with fewer enemies, so you can complete the content in a shorter period of time, and without running as high a risk of outleveling. (You can certainly put together a larger team, however, if you have enough characters of the appropriate levels.)
My character Nebula, who hasn't seen the light of day in weeks, is level 11. I can join you on the Positron Task Force if you'd be willing to sidekick her. However, I can't dedicate more than about an hour and a half or two hours of play time to it per night. Let me know if you're interested!
I believe the minimum number of players for the Positron Task Force is four, so we'd have to find another interested player within the appropriate level range.
*facepalm*
Footpad and Witch Engine! Duh!
Interested, folks?

Re: Task force missions
I'd love to finish a taskforce. Sadly they always seem to crap out via bugs. Even when they're fixed, they break. C'est la vie, I suppose.
Re: Task force missions
Briare and Meiyen are both lvl 15. I have no problem with dying a bit, though, to slow down leveling so I don't miss out, and I'm sure Meiyen wouldn't either.
I won't be able to be online tonight due to RL. However, if enough people express interest in doing Positron, I'd be happy to do it with you. I've got alts I can play if I've really got the itch. I honestly wasn't sure of there were characters in PR low enough to still do Positron, either.
On the other hand, if no one is interested, I can skip it and move on to the next.
I've heard people succeeding with 4 so long as they are at the lvl cap for the mission (16, I guess for the first), btw, Solaron, so that's where I'd gotten the 4 from.
Thanks for the information. It helps.
So, anyone want to try Positron for an alt or "young" main with Meiyen and I? We really are nice people to group with, I promise.
Re: Task force missions
I am interested to do Synapse's TF with Basilisk before he out-levels it, if anybody else is up for that... err that is after it's found ofcourse... As for Positron's, I don't have any character at that level range at the time being, but given a few nights I could bring up a scrapper to that range... then again with 2 blasters 2 scrappers you guys REALLY need some healing and controller powers, and from experience it's tremendously harder to level a defender or controller in comparison to scrappers... I reckon we shall see... I've been too consumed with all types of scrappers, perhaps I should dabble a bit with a controller or defender...
Re: Task force missions
My Gracie is still level 12, poor neglected thing. (Gracie Gravity, Grav/Kinetics Controller). If I'm availible, I might be able to help.
My understanding is that while Task Forces spawn all maximum-level enemies, the NUMBER you face, as with any other mission, depends on how many members you have in a group. A small task force, as far as I'm aware, won't be scaled by level, but will be scaled down by number of foes.
Task Force
I'd be interested in joining up with a task force soon (I'm really eager to get back to superheroing in general, actually). If all goes well I should be back on Wednesday. Blueshift is 16, Joe Smith is 14 and the somewhat dusty Quantum Mechanic is 13 so I should be able to do Positron's or Synapse's missions.

I finished Positron's with a team of 3, two controllers and a defender (this was with Fox, obviously). The monster-level change hadn't been put in yet, but since we'd all levelled to 15 during the TF, it wouldn't have mattered.
As long as you've got a controller, or a lot of slowing powers, you should be fine with 3-4. If you're all scrappers and blasters, though, the big boss might just beat you down before you can do the same to him.
Re: Task force missions
Aliuneidis is level 14, so still within Positron range.
Quickshot is 17, and within Synapse range.
Swiftwind is 15, and in the low Synapse range.
I'm more interested in the Synapse one. I never felt the story in the Positron one was good. Also, if they aren't using the "1 level standard mob" version, it will still be buggy.
