Teacher Nomination Form
I've gotten a few questions repeated regarding the teacher nomination form.

Is it required?
No, but we highly encourage everyone to participate. Teacher's don't get enough recognition as it is, and this really does mean quite a lot to them.

I am totally swamped right now. Can I send you the form later?
We understand 'tis the season of AP exams, final exams, SATs, and all that jazz. If you'd like to nominate someone but don't feel you can complete the form by May 15, send in the rest of the paperwork and then send the teacher nomination form along as soon as you can. We will start sending out the teacher invitations the fist week of June, so we'd appreciate getting the form by June 1 if possible. June 15 is the absolute deadline, but please send it in earlier if you can. We are getting the forms from 400 students and we can't process them all at the last minute! :surrender You can also send in the teacher name and address now, and email us the supporting statement later.

Does the person I nominate have to be a current teacher of mine? Do they have to work at a school?
Nope and nope. We've had kindergarten teachers nominated, we've had private instructors nominated. We've even had a high school principal's secretary nominated. If you have a reason why you'd like this person to be recognized as an outstanding educator, we will recognize them.

My teacher can't come on July 14. Should I nominate somebody else?
That is up to you. Only around half of the teachers nominated attend Teacher Recognition Day, so it is certainly not a requirement. Every teacher receives a certificate regardless of whether or not they can attend.

My teacher told me I had to nominate him/her because he/she nominated me for Governor's School. Is this true?
Nope.

Other questions? Feel free to post them and we'll answer 'em!:thumbup

Re: Teacher Nomination Form
My son finds it difficult to nominate just one teacher for the teacher nomination recognition as he has had many teachers over the yearsl who have been very helpful to him. Is it possible for a student just to nominate his teachers as a group, or all his teachers in a school district, with a certificate to go to the school superintendent or to the high school principal to indicate that the student has nominated his teachers from that school district or from his high school for thanks? Realize that multiple teachers can't visit with him, and that a student would need to nominate just one individual teacher for a teacher to be able to visit.

Re: Teacher Nomination Form
That is an interesting suggestion. It is a little bit outside of the nature of the recognition day, but merits further thought. I'll post the idea to our staff board and let the Teacher Recognition committee chew on it awhile and post a response soon.

Re: Teacher Nomination Form
After discussing things a bit on our staff board, we thought it might be best if Teacher Recognition was an individual honor. Although your invited guest may represent a number of teachers in your area, it might be a good idea to acknowledge the other teachers' contributions to your life in other ways, such as a letter of thanks. A great question, though... thanks for bringing it to our attention.
