The Discovery
There was a bright light. It was almost blinding. She could only make out blurs.
“Amanda, wake-up,” said on the figures. A few seconds later, she heard seals pop. Cryogenic gasses escaped.
Her name was Amanda al-Qua. She was a scientist, a scientist specializing in animal genetics.
“What, the-“ she said, to no one in particular. A strong hand grabbed a hold of her arm, and pulled her out. She almost fell.
“Whoa, hold it there,” said the man. He was about 6’ 4”. He was built very muscular, and had a crop of dirty-blonde hair. “You still haven’t got use to the real world just yet. You’d just spent over 500 years in suspension.” Amanda got a good look at the man. He was wearing a military-cut uniform that was colored in a blue-black. He had the rank bars of a lieutenant colonel.
There were four other people with him. One was a man in a white lab suit; a woman in the same military-cut uniform as the first man, but had the bars of a major; another man in a white lab suit, and fourth that was not human. It stood on two spindly legs. It had a skeletal body with a pair of bong arms. Its head was wedge shaped and was pointed down. And it was green.
This was Ajaro Ber’Varo. He was a Martian. For years, humans said that Martians didn’t exist. But, in 2089, in the seventeenth manned expedition to Mars, the crew found thousands, may be millions of Martians in suspended animation. The Martians had excellent ship building skills and genetic manipulation.
        “What happened?” Amanda asked.
“Do you remember the Project?” The military women said. Her name was Katie Sparrow.
“Yes,” Amanda replied. The project was a project that would spread humanity across the galaxy. Giant space arks filled with only about 500 hundred suspended humans would travel to a planet. Then upon reaching the destination, genetic scientist would manipulate the embryos of millions of humans to fit the new planet.
“Well, the Discovery has been traveling for about 600 years now. We’ve reached our destination,” Ber’Varo’s English voice box whirred. Martians spoke in a variety of clicks and whistles.
        “Good,” Amanda said.

Amanda was siting in the meeting hall for the main scientist. There were 19 humans and 3 Martians present. In the middle of the table, a holo-projector was whirring to life. It showed an image of a gas giant.
“This is Formusa. It is our designated planet.” The holoprjection zoomed into the surface. “It is about three times the size of Earth. It is covered with millions of pentacles, each averaging about 150 square kilometers.
“Basically, the plan is basic. We are to create about 35 different sub-species of the sub-species Homo Sapiens Formus. Each one will be humans from the waste up, except for a pair of large wings. Below the waste, the legs will be replaced with snail-like tails. They will be covered in scales and the scales will be covered in feathers. Any questions?”
Colonel Jerzo Ker’Je raised his hand.
        “Colonel,”
“What year, human date, will we drop the Formusans on?”
“About 1921. They will have just ended a decade long war. Their navies will use zeppelin-like ships. Airplanes have been discussed back on Earth, and it was decided to have airplanes.” A human raised their hand for a question.
“Sir, well, how much work will there be?” The human asked.
“Well, about a year ago, some scientist were awaken, and a probe was launched. Some work has been done in genetics. Also, we have to set up buildings and archeological sites in case we have any major archeologist. Anything else? Okay then, your specific projects have been transferred to your PalmReaders.”

The Project was the great plan to save human kind. It was started in 2103. A dangerous plague and other problems were devastating Earth. Only 102.4 million people were off Earth when the plague hit. The leaders of Earth decided to save mankind by launching thousands of ships to thousands of planets.
Each “Space Ark” carried only 1600 humans or Martians. But they carried the necessary materials to create a civilization equivalent to 1850-1920 Earth. Each also carried millions of embryos to transformed into their new state. The DNA of millions of species and plants are carried.
By the time the Columbia was launched, the plague had been cured. But, the Project had gained too much momentum.
Martians were discovered on the seven-tenth manned mission to Mars. Millions of Martians had been locked a way into suspended animation to save themselves. Martians were masters of cryogenics and genetic engineering. So, each space ark carries at least 50 Martians to help with the genetics.

Colonel Fel Lutjen stood in one of cavernous docking bays of the 25.6-kilometer long Discovery. Only a small portion of the bay was filled with what he was looking at. It was a blimp that was about 700 feet in length and 400 in width. It had a cabin that was about 350 feet long, 300 wide and 15 decks high. Even more decks were concealed inside the blimps. In the end of the cabin two doors nearly 75 feet in length were open. 36 fighters would be carried there.
Eight powerful engines hung at various intervals along the hull. Two forward double and two aft double turrets were situated in front and rear of the cabin. About 14 cassemattes lined each side of the cabins on deck 7. On deck 10, three tubes with reloading braces were fitted. Each launcher had an aerial torpedo.
“Dear god, its big,” Fel said.
“Isn’t she.” Said the chief mechanic, who had just happened to stand next to him. “She was designed by one named Vladimer Gerchez. A similar ship was tested in the atmosphere of Earth.”
“It sure is intriguing. What’s its armaments?”
“Eight 16” main guns, 28 5” secondary guns in cassemattes, six aerial torpedo launchers, and 20 AA machine guns.” Replied the mechanic. Siting next to the battleship was a ship of similar dimensions except it had half the cassemattes and only had 4 8” gun primary armament. It had a larger hanger bay. IT could carry 60 fighters. It was a carrier.
Six fighters-two combat fighters, two torpedo bombers, and two dive bombers-stood at ready next to the carrier.
Fel ran his hand against the fabric of the torpedo bomber. The fabric was taken from the leaves of the gambuni tree. The bomber was an opened cockpit, bi-plane fighter. It had a fuselage-mounted rack that could hold a 7-foot long aerial torpedo that was 19” in diameter. It had one rack under each of the two lower wings that could hold a 250-pound bomb.
        “Yep, a beauty,” Fel repeated.
