The MCS.
Mr O Ceallaigh,

What're your thoughts on Talamthom vs the MCS? I have heard a proposal regarding a certain island, which is not dissimilar to our existing map.

I suspect we should probably enter wholeheartedly into negotiations of some sort sooner rather than later, sir. Your thoughts?

*trying not to be the bully*

I may have an alternate suggestion for you green-skinned chaps if you are interested.

As you may or may not know, Gotz maintains the 'homeland' on a non-MCS map HERE

I had never intended it to have anyone else on, but if you want I can add you to it in a sort of 'holding pattern' until you find something on the MCS map to move on to.

And Thomas, you sound awfully cranky about something, :b

Re: The MCS.
Mr O Ceallaigh -- I agree with your sentiment. This has come as a bit of a sudden broadside.

As I see it, we're ultimately going to have to either sacrifice our existing map and redraw our borders, or back out of the MCS entirely. Neither is particularly attractive.

At this point, however, I feel we need to come to a decision regarding our general position w/r/t the MCS. Do we want in, or out? If 'in', we can start to broker a solution with them. If 'out', we simply need to work out how to deal with our overseas colonies -- do not forget that we could simply remove them from Micras as well, and maintain our own maps of them. If we are prepared to do this for our homeland, then why not colonies?

Your Majesty -- Talamthom appreciates your gesture, but those maps do look quite personal, and I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one to feel like an intruder.

Having compared your two maps, however, I notice some of your regions have the same name, suggesting that your MCS presence is not merely a colony, but an 'alternative homeland'?

I'm fascinated. How does your current situation work, if you don't mind my asking? I'm wondering if Talamthom could adopt a small portion of Micras, divide it into a couple of our administrative regions but continue using our own map internally (if that is in fact what Gotzborg has done).

Re: The MCS.
Mr President,

Our own non-MCS map is not 'personal' really, it was the original map of the kingdom from the original map when the Kingdom came around in 1989. I simply redrew it onto computer and in MCS style.

I purposely never expanded upon the areas outside the borders of the Kingdom as it was never important enough to do, the focus being on Gotzborg and its map.

As far as the 'link' between our map and the MCS, for the purposes of my own imagination, I just considered the 'homeland' to be just off the MCS map, so ships or things sent from the homeland would eventually make it to destinations on the MCS map, thereby giving me some continuity to the relationship.

Since coming into mn's, Mr Caruso had always wanted us to get on MCS and I resisted for quite a while before working out with them the colony of Lusatia, as a way to link the Gotz map with the MCS and giving more link to the two areas.

The taking of the landmass on Novasolum was a bit of homeland expansion. Although some of the peerages named on the original map a duplicated on the micras map, the duplicates will be changed on the MCS map to eliminate that sometime soon.

I would seriously have no problem sharing some space on our little map, east (or right) from Gotz out on your own using the map of Thomas' original. Please don't feel like an intruder, you most definetly would not be. And be assured, if I felt that was the case, I would not have made the offer in the first place.

Re: The MCS.
Hmm, well we will definitely consider your proposal -- though this is probably going to wind up in the Dáil before too long.

The problem with your suggestion, of course, is that the MCS would still require us to give up our territories on Micras. Even though, were we to exist on your 'off-camera' map, we'd be in effectively the exact same situation as Gotzborg.

Interesting...

Well they won't kick you out of existing territory. Consider it a 'holding map' until you can get what you want on the MCS map and then move there completely.

But I leave this open to you and TT for as long as you need to get it through its processes. ;)

Thanks for entertaining a dull old King Mr President. 8o

It is Talamthom's pleasure, sir.

Tom -- if you could let me know what you think of our options when you're done pondering, that'd be cool. Do either of you think it's worth entering into informal discussion with the MCS/whoever's in charge of the MCS to see if they're prepared to bend any of their rules? Or are we already in informal discussion...?

Re: The MCS.
I don't think they will bend the rules. Bending for TT would mean an open can of issues for many other nations that would want the same.

Unfortunately there is only one island on ythe MCS map which 'fits' the TT map Thomas originally did when TT was founded and even that island (the MCS one) I feel is a little small.

The only other option is like Thomas is proposing in the Courtyard, which is a different landmass.

Re: The MCS.
Good plan, Tom. No harm in at least talking to them about it, right?

The island you're talking about isn't really too small, if you imagine Micras to be roughly Earth-sized. If that's the case, it's larger than the real-world Eire on which we're based...

Hmm.

Thank you, Mr O Ceallaigh. I shall not interfere until you request my presence.

But having just read their post, might I suggest you attempt to obtain the small cluster of islands to the right, as well? I have vague ideas for cultural backstories and whatnot... ;-)

The closer ones, sure.

But I like the idea that the more remote ones be referred to as the 'Tománn Shield', and be pretty much uninhabited except for a bit of subsistance farming and Mark's embryonic military.
