The Story of the Smock
*This may be rushed a bit, but I really wanted this to be around before the head start began. The proof reading I did was probably far too little, and I'll get the rest of it put together soon I hope. The rest should be easier for me to write than this first part.*
Part 1
He cruised toward Paragon City at super-human speed using his well honed agility and perception to avoid the obstacles on his way. The dangers of the travels seem to be the last thing on his mind though. Thoughts swirled around his head, and he gracefully dodged the potholes littering the roadways of Paragon City. "I could make a name for myself here, this is my chance to really shine, my art could really be appreciated here" he thought. With the exit for the Paragon Institute of the Arts approaching, his mind quickly became more concerned with finding his way there. His arrival and introduction to the Paragon Institute of the Arts was hectic, but after a few weeks at his new school he established a busy but manageable routine.
"So your bringing your own weights to the gym now Rob?" jabbed his roommate as he staggered out the door awkwardly with his gym bag. Rob attempted to act amused, but he was too caught up in his plans to really care. Late night sessions at the gym weren't unusual for him, but he wasn't headed to the gym tonight. As he walked across campus, Rob peered at the skies that threatened to bring rain and tried to decide whether to or not to follow through with his plan for tonight. "Maybe the bad weather will keep the criminals at home," he thought as as he passed the gym and took a turn for one of less peaceful parts of town. After walking nervously for a few minutes, Rob felt that it was quiet enough to duck into an alley without being noticed. The poorly lit alley was as good a place as any to prepare. He dropped his gym back to the ground, and then felt the first drop of rain.
Inside the bag was a balled up brown trench coat that he removed and laid over a railing. Beneath the coat was a piece of armor made from metal plates that were bounded together with leather. This flexible armor was made to protect its wearer's upper arms and chest, and it is adorned with blue paint in an abstract pattern. Rob slipped into his armor with little effort showing his familiarity with it. The blue mask at the bottom of the bag was all that Rob needed to finish his costume. A few quick stretches to make sure he was comfortable and to calm himself were all he needed to get ready. He then threw on his trench coat and exited the alley to begin patrolling the streets.
A steady drizzle ensured that few people wander the streets in this harsh neighborhood at night. After wandering these streets for half an hour, a now damp Rob decided to start his return to his dorm. Rob noticed a clanging sound coming from the next street over and decided to investigate. He found an alley to cut through that would bring him close enough to see what was happening. As he approached the end of the alley, he made sure to stay quiet with his movements and to stay in the shadows. The sounds were coming from the garage door of a car repair shop.
"One watching guard with a knife on his belt, another trying to break in the" Rob was thinking as a truck passed by diverting the guards attention. Seeing a chance to gain the element of surprise, Rob threw his trench coat to the ground and bolted across the street. As he got close to the guard, he lunged into a disabling kick to the head. The wet leaves on the ground caused him to slip as he planted his foot. His kick landed with more forced than he intended, but he still fell to the ground faster than his target. Now the other thugs rushed to the slightly disoriented hero on the ground. An overhead swing of a bat came crashing toward Rob as he tried to gather himself.
