Theme for week of September 15th, From Sabatoge to Support
From Sabotage to Support
Think about it:
What are the actions or statements of friends, family members that seem to stop our weight loss momentum. Here are some possible responses:
~ Mom, Dad, Sister, Brother, Husband, Wife, Co-workers, Aunt, Grandparent, Kids
~ Some say - Come on... I made this especially for you.... You HAVE to eat it!
~ You've lost enough weight... you can have that
~ Treat yourself for all your hard work
~ You're no fun to be around now that you're losing weight
~ It didn't work before, so what makes you think it's going to work now?
~ If you don't have any... then I won't have any (guilt)
~ Asking if you want something over and over and over
"Why" might these people say or do what they do, the group responded with:
~ Some love us regardless of size and think they are helping
~ Desire to comfort
~ Jealousy
~ Don't want you to change
~ Want us to have fun
There are various reasons why some people will sabotage our efforts. Some don't even realize they are doing it - which is why we have to be ASSERTIVE and NOT let others rule our lives. Here are a few suggestions as to "how" to handle these people:
~ Get firm
~ Ask for a hug instead of food
~ Stay away from the situation
~ Tell them why it's important to you to stay OP
Deal with Sabotage
1. Recognize "change back" messages and be strong!
2.) Respond appropriately to get the support you need.
3.) Stay determined!
Winning Outcomes
Remind yourself what you want!!! State in the positive; be specific; within your control; a good fit with your life
Empowering Beliefs
Beliefs are ideas we think are true. Beliefs strongly influence what we do because they live in our hearts as well as our heads. Therefore, it is VERY important to become aware of what you believe about your weight-related outcomes - whether you believe they are desireable and worth it, whether you believe you are capable of achieving them and whether you believe you deserve to achieve them. Your weight management success will hinge on these three beliefs:
1.) My goal is desirable and worth it to me
2.) I'm capable of achieving my outcome
3.) I deserve (am worthy) to achieve my outcome
Use empowering beliefs - they are a great tool for dealing with those difficult people. If you believe that they'll try and sabotage your weekend.... chances are it'll happen.
Mental Rehearsing
Mental rehearsing is practice in your imagination. Since the mind and body form one system, your mind can help prepare your body for the actual situation in which you want to behave or act a certain way. It's practiced by all top performers, be they athletes, actors, musicians, artists, public speakers, or salespeople. It can also be practiced by people who want to become TOP performers at losing and managing their weight!
Mentally rehearse the next situation where you "know" you'll be with someone who typically tries to sabotage your weight loss! BE READY!
Final thought for you sistas....
A "no" uttered from deepest conviction is BETTER and GREATER than a "yes" merely uttered to please or what is worse to avoid trouble.

Re: Theme for week of September 15th, From Sabatoge to Suppo
Good Topic Tonia. (Please don't beat me , I keep over sleeping when it's time for chat)
Anyway, people are always trying to sabatoge someone's goals if it's weight loss, career goals, a love interest, whatever. If I don't agree with someone's choice I just keep my mouth closed. However, I never down what someone else is doing.
There are so many people at work trying to do this to me now. UGgh, or trying to KNOW every dang on thing about what I am doing when they need to focus on self.
Now if that is a lesson that I have learned is focus on self and you won't have time to focus on another indivdual's personal business.
I am going to print this out.
Good Theme
Indi at a size 16. That's about 40 pounds lighter than what I am now.
This is me about a month earlier than the above pic. Same weight. I am 5'9.
The one standing is at the Jill Scott concert in 01. |
