Thoughts from my day....
My absolute favorite-ist political statement t-shirt says:

"Somewhere in Texas a village is missing its idiot"

Did anyone catch the protest in front of Madison Square Gardens in NYC on Saturday that CNN televised? My son and I watched it for like an hour. I was impressed by the number of people there, and that the police didn't have to subdue the crowds or anything because it was so peaceful. Just a bunch of people speaking their minds by being present, or carrying a sign, or chanting with the crowd around them. Awesome.

This is the first year in a VERY long time that I won't have to vote for the lesser of two evils - how very satisfying.

I had a lovely long talk with Iris last night in IM - discussed plants, and cats, and her wedding. Talked about how I am going to be picking Gaia and Punkin up on my way to Kentucky. Is this not so, Gaia? hmmmmmmm? I asked for the time off today and it is a "GO", Iris m'love. Warn your mom. As for my wedding clothes, I'll get as close to Celtic as this Dutch/English-woman can get although there is a slight drop of Irish in these veins too. Maybe that will help. Hey, shadeaux (if you are reading this) where is a good place to go online to see what "celtic" clothes look like? If anyone knows it would be you!

Remember my feral cats? Well I caught the tamest one (Cheyenne), took him to the vet and had him neutered, innoculated, and the fleas terminated. Ta-da! One less male cat in the neighborhood to make babies. And, he is still speaking to me! By the way, one-eyed Mommacat has delivered her second litter this summer. I fear it is alittle too close to winter for their good health, though. Don't know where she has them hidden but I suspect it is underneath Zak's workshop because that is where she raised her twins from earlier this year. The twins are getting more used to me, and will even stand their ground now when I come out of the house. They both still have the blue slightly-crossed eyes of a siamese heritage. I sense that at least one of them cannot see very well. His eyes do not seem to focus when he is looking at me. He rather looks through me. But what beautiful children they both are. Zak has named them Miles and Julian. Can anyone guess where that comes from? "this is a test.... it is only a test...." <--- that is not a hint either.

Gotta go. :lots narshaadha

Re: Thoughts from my day....
hi peeps!
After work I went over to my youngest niece's house to help her with her knitting project. I taught her to knit and purl on Saturday and she is doing a potholder - just to get used to knitting, counting, and tension. We are going to have "knitting night" once every week. She likes the idea because that way she will have help with her projects and also - in her words - get to know me better. It will be good for me too because it will force me to do my knitting instead of putting it off, and build a closer bond with her. She was only 5 yrs old when Zak was born and conseequently I didn't spend as much time with her. She is a sweet little pixie-type person. Actually, remember when wingedwolf shaved her head as a sign of solidarity with her sister buffalo woman? My niece did too - she loves bw.
The twin white kittens allow me to sit on the patio while they are eating or relaxing. The one we call Miles is so blind that he - like the T-Rex in Jurassic Park- can't see me unless I move. Julian doesn't appear to have a problem with his sight, but is more timid. Piglet apparently has taken the role of babysitter for the twins now that Mommacat has had her new litter. Miles adores him, sometimes following so close at Piglet's side that he looks like a white shadow. He will rub his face against Piglet's shoulder or neck. If Piglet lies down, Miles lies down. If Piglet looks alertly in a certain direction, that's where Miles's face is pointed too. It reminds me of a picture I carry in my memory of when Narshada was a kitten and Sasha was her role model. They were both sitting at the window looking out at the yard. Sasha gazed steadfastly ahead. Narshada kept turning her little head to look at Sasha - to see what direction she was lookiing in. Then she would look over there too. So sweet. Well enough of my cat tales.

Re: Thoughts from my day....
Yesterday was a very busy day for me. My son and I prepared a bushel of tomatoes for canning and we wound up with 15 quarts and 12 pints ( I like different sizes). I am going back for another bushel when I finish this post. I spent some time outside pulling weeds and starting a compose pile, but after awhile it just got too hot. Then my youngest niece called me and asked me to come pick her up and have her over for dinner which seemed REALLY strange to me. So drove over to get her and her baby, and there was her car, and her partner's car and I wondered why I had to do this (?) Turns out there was a huge problem the night before and she needed to get away from home but couldn't drive her car - it had no tabs - and he wouldn't drive her over. So-o-o-o there I was right in the middle of it, but they were both much calmed down and although I was uncomfortable it was okay. She stayed until it was time for the baby's bedtime and then I took them home. I was anxious to know how they did through the night so I called my sister because F had stayed at her house the night of the catastrophe. She is okay today and her partner is out fishing with his dad so hopefully they will talk man to man. Here's what I would like someone to help me with: the issue they face is sexual - he wants, she doesn't. Baby is 18 months old. Could her hormones still be screwed up from the pregnancy? I remember my oldest niece had a problem like this about 18-24 months after she had her baby. Does mother nature delete the sexual drive in women when they have little, little ones so that they don't get pregnant again and can tend to their babies? I know that probably sounds really off the wall but it's all I can figure out. Also, F is contemplating taking some kind of a pill that will increase her sexual drive. Her mother recommended it because she takes it too, and it seems to be working. Is this thing safe? Has anyone heard of it?

Re: Thoughts from my day....
Deb,I can tell you what my midwives told me,almost word for word.
"The female body may be designed to have babies, and everyone thinks it only takes 6 weeks to recover, because that's the amount of time women are allowed to take off work. The fact is,it can take up to three years for a womans system to fully recover from childbirth.Things have been stretched, and moved out of place, hormonal glands have been sent into overdrive,or almost turned off,And on top of that, you've added a baby who won't let you rest as much as you need to.It takes three years for all that to get back the way it was."
That's why women who have two babies within two years automatically qualify for WIC(women, infants, and children,a nutritional program),because thier nutritional stores are completely gone, making the second child at least at risk for nutritional deficiency, from birth.
So,yes, lack of sex drive in the first couple of years is very normal, and is Mother Natures way of saying,"nope,it's too soon to do this again."
