Topic of the week: Taking kids to class
Many thanks to Kate for this great topic! Have any of you that already have kids had to take them to class? I know I have! If you don't have kids yet, how do you feel about it? Have you ever had other people bring their kids to class? Once again, Kate, thanks!
I have had to bring our DD to class once. The ABA has pretty strict attendance policies, so you can't miss too many classes. Bringing the baby wasn't too bad, but I definitely didn't pay attention as well as I normally do. She was about 17 months at the time. I sat near the door, and she explored around in the hall nearby. So my focus was split b/t keeping an eye on her and taking notes. It was kinda comical, b/c other students who were walking by in the hall didn't realize that someone was watching her. Seeing their reaction to a baby "on the loose" was funny. She also played with the quiet toys I brought. The class was pretty big, and people said they didn't even know that she was there. The prof was very understanding, but it was a class in sex discrimination, so it would have been ironic if she hadn't let DD come. If I have to do it again, I will, but I'll avoid is as much as possible.
Re: Topic of the week: Taking kids to class
I have had to take DS to class several times. It is okay because the prof of the class I have to take him loves him to death and will play with him the whole time. It's a Spanish class so the whole class is mostly just talking and occassionally some group work. I'm pretty sure DS will be bi-lingual, since DH and I try really hard to only speak Spanish at home.
I don't even want to think about taking DS to any of my other classes, they are just lecture classes and since he's 13 months old he just doesn't do quiet or sitting still!
