Topical remedy for sores, bites, stings.
Using ground comfrey root, take about a teaspoon of this. Pour boiling water on it and let it steep for a few minutes. Add 1 teaspoon of ground mullein powder and make a paste. For added infection fighters, you can also add a few drops of liquid ecchinacea, and a few drops of liquid goldenseal if you wish. (Powdered ecchinacea and goldenseal are okay too). Mix up into a paste. If you have to add a bit more ground mullein to it to make it pasty in consistency, go ahead. Let it cool for a few minutes. Apply paste directly to sore, bite, or sting. The mullein has a natural anesthetic, and will make it feel better but the combination will also clear up infection.
Put a band-aid or some type of covering on it, if you like, to keep the paste from getting on your clothes & stuff. MIL had a tick bite that blistered badly and started to turn black on her ankle. This cleared it up and started it to healing within 3 days. We use this a lot on us, and it works on animals too.

Don't make too much at once. I refrigerate it after I make it, but after a week or so, it starts to grow mold. I don't know how to stop that.

Hmmmm,I wonder if adding honey to it would help.Honey also soothes bites,so may make a nice addition.Ironically,I couldn't add it to mine,my hubby is allergic to it(I guess I could add it to all but a small amount that I could set aside just for him, though). But,honey inhibits mold.

Good idea! I never thought of honey. Thanks, Shadeaux! I'll have to try that with the next batch.

I make a general all purpose salve with echinacea, goldenseal and comfrey, with a base of olive oil and beeswax, it is very effective, I will post the recipe in another post. I also make one for stretch marks I am perfecting the formula . lol

I guess I'm more of the lazy sort. Just taught my horde to identify plantain - we chew it up a bit and slap it on the bug bite/bee sting - very effective.

You can add it to salves & ointments. Use it as a poultice, alone or with comfrey (a dash of cayenne makes it killer). It's got great drawing properties when used that way (like sage); good for infected wounds, drawing out splinters, etc. It's antiseptic, anti-inflammatory.
Plantain tea is a great diuretic, good for bowel, kidney, bladder problems. Good for sinus & coughs - helps clear mucus. It can slow down menses, so watch for that.
On a spiritual level, it's cleansing and healing, and used for inner balancing and readjustment, reatunement with nature.
Another added benefit is that it grows everywhere. Not endangered like golden seal.
