Tough SituationsOne, two, three turn. One, two, three, turn.
Alexia paced her sitting room. She counted her steps as she thought over the situation. A few weeks ago she had found the long thought dead Queen of Saldaea. She had told no one but the Yellow sister Anberlin and Tanae Sedai. She knew she could trust the Yellow to look after her and not tell anyone else in the Tower. As for Tanae it would have been useless to keep the Queen hidden from Tanae. Still upset at how Tanae had barged into her room Alexia mumbled obscenities. Thankfully, the only person who was the talk of the Aes Sedai was Myrinna. How she escaped the massacre was something Alexia could not fathom. Her escape from the Wood raised questions she did not want to contemplate.
A shudder caused her to stop suddenly as she remembered how Myrinna wept over being stilled. Her story of what happened chilled Alexia to the bone. The Asha'men were out of control. The fact they had stilled almost every Red that had been in Braem Wood made her angry. Eldrie's death had been unfortunate. Her eyes turned to her window and watched the new dawning of another day. With a sigh she hugged herself. He had been a friend and Alexia would not forget him. She could concede, if only to herself, that it was only logical the Asha’men had wanted some sort of compensation but so much death for one man was intolerable. For Eldrie she would plead that the Asha’men not be punished too harshly. But they will be punished there was not doubt of that. Determined she started to pace again, her mind on another matter.
The was no Amyrlin. Yet she was Keeper and many hoped she would step forward for the position. Alexia was sure she did not want the job and had told the Hall time had come for another to be chosen. She had no problems stepping down. If anything stepping down would be a relief and then she could go about helping were she was needed. Her pacing had stopped again and she walked into the bedroom. Yasha was curled up in the middle of her bed sleeping soundly. What happened with her friend was upsetting but Alexia had to find a way to get her back were she belonged. For weeks Yasha had been arguing with her about Myrinna. She wanted the woman beheaded which Alexia could understand but she had to find a way to get the woman to back down. Yasha rolled over to her back her small belly rounded out under the sheet, raising and falling, as she breathed. The bloody woman had been wandering the countryside pregnant. The day they found her she had almost lost the twins she was carrying. She had been starving herself to death on her hunt for her husband’s killer. Leaning against the doorjamb Alexia could not help but admire the woman. She had a resolve not many women had. Tanae Sedai had been in and out of the room telling the stubborn woman to stop being bloodthirsty.
Now with Tanae only gone until supper, Alexia should have been relaxing. Her thoughts turned to the White Tower again. The Reds were calling for retribution although they knew that as of this moment they were still being watched. The Hall had not been welcoming of the others that had returned before the Massacre. They had been under constant surveillance. None had objected but they had not been happy of it either. When they heard of what happened to their sisters they had been ready to march on the Black Tower itself. The Hall had silenced them by reminding them they had brought this situation down on all Aes Sedai when some had followed Eriya. The reminder had stopped the shouting for a war although the murmurs were still heard. Now the Hall was to convene tomorrow to figure out what to do about them and the vacant Amyrlin Seat. She of course hoped for a quick decision but with the Hall she was sure it would take more days then they had. She had a feeling that the Black Tower was preparing for war and she wanted the White Tower ready for that not still floundering around like a fish out of water.
She was still thinking on that when she heard a knock at the door. Groaning as she hoped it was not Tanae, she gave the person permission to enter.

Kerin sat in the dark of her room, clad only in her thin shift, her dark hair falling in waves around her face as her head was bowed over her work. Only a single flickering candle lit the room, and it was across the room, casting dancing light across a crumpled bed and piles of clothes tossed carelessly on the ground. The blinds were drawn tightly across the window, blocking out what little light that wanted to come in. She straightened for a moment, sighed, and then held up what appeared to be a perfectly normal ring.
TO any normal person that had walked in right then, they would have seen a woman, scantily clad in her chair, bending over a desk totally empty, with a ring in her hand. No quill or parchment . . . just a ring, and her. However, had another sister walked into the room, they would have seen Kerin bright with the glow of saidar, brighter than should be possible. But in her hair was a small clip of two butterflies that she was drawing the Power through, magnifying her ability, pouring complex weaves that others could never hope to untangle, into this ring. For a few hours she sat as still as stone, then . . . when she moved, the glow around her dwindled and finally vanished, and she held up the final product. A ter'angreal, made for the sole purpose of . . . well . . . Kerin wasn't precisely sure what she had made it for yet. Something to do with the situation at hand, she was sure.
Sighing, she took the clip from her hair and laid it on her desk with the ring and rose. Her graceful form was outlined for a moment against the candle before she bent to manually uncover the lamp, and more light flooded into the room. She walked over to her washbasin, and after washing her hair and face well, she stripped out of the shift and pulled a fresh one over her head, then a pale blue dress. She spent a few moments in front of the mirror, applying dark paints around her eyes. She had taken to them after the debacle in Tear and all that afterwards . . . Kamariana had wandered off into the sunset practically with Arigan in tow after the last battle. Her mind had cracked, somehow, lost most of it's sanity, and with it, somehow, had went the bond that had connected the two women.
With the bond had went most, if not all, of her motivation. Gone was the bubbly, happy, strange Kerin that the others had come to know. In her place was a mean, strong, woman that was quiet and powerful. She was one of the more powerful saidar-wise left in the Tower these days, and being in the Hall . . . well . . . needless to say that a lot more were beginning to ignore the fact that she was young, and see that she had wisdom far beyond her years. She had been where most of them had not, seen things and done things that most had not. Uncovered new Talents and brought something that most had thought lost to them. She was Kerin Lizaile, Aes Sedai of the Blue Ajah. Not "that Kerin girl."
And without an Amyrlin, there was much talk among the Ajahs of putting up their own runners for the Amyrlinship. There was much talk that Alexia would never have the courage that she needed to step up and fill Kairina's shoes. Kerin called it . . . intelligence. Why anyone would WANT to bring that stole, with all the weight that it carried right now, onto their own shoulders, was something far beyond Kerin. Though, there had apparently been talk among her sisters that they were beginning to believe that she would make a wise candidate for the Amyrlinship herself. She wanted such rumors squashed as soon as possible . . . hopefully, someone she could trust would soon declare her intent, and Kerin could throw the support of the Blues behind her.
She pulled her hair back into a ponyail, letting her bangs hang loose around her sharp green eyes that were accutely accented by the dark paints that surrounded them, slipped her ring on her finger, and pulled on a soft pair of indoor slippers. She needed to see Alexia, she had decided, and see if she could talk the woman into doing something decisive with the Hall. This Tower, and all in it, were all that she had left, and the Tower was sorely prepared for the challenges of the sort that were currently facing them, what with the war in Andor, threatening civil war in Cairhein, with seventeen different declared intentions for the Sun Throne currently, the Black Tower growing faster than the White Tower had ever dreamed of, and the Warders in somewhat of a chaotic state without either a Master of Arms or a Grounds Commander. The Hall needed to do something about all of this, and put the Tower back on track. Kerin was NOT about to let everything go to waste.
She moved silently, but quickly down the halls, her feet making as little noise as a gaidin's would have in soft grass. She had learned a little from watching them practice, at least. They had learned that no matter how much they tried, that she still drew their eyes, and they still got nice welts from staring at her instead of their opponents. She reached Alexia's rooms and drew a deep breath before knocking twice, and hearing the call to enter, pushed the door open to see Alexia looking rather irratated at the intrusion. Unphased, she stared back with her disconcertingly clear green eyes. "Alexia Sedai." Kerin greeted with a minibow of the head. "I was wondering if you had some spare time that I might intrude upon."

Re: Tough Situations
Alexia's expression went blank as she watched Kerin Sedai walk in. The woman looked a shadow of her former self. The beautiful woman was annoying and snobby before now she was just stoic. Not that Alexia knew her anymore now then she did before but the change was very noticable.
She could not help but wandered how she was taking Kamariana's disappearance. They had been bonded she was sure although the why of it was not something she could ask and seem as if it did not matter. As Keeper, with no Amyrlin, she would have had to punish her in some obscure way. But if she pretended it was only a rumor then she could do nothing. Plus it was not something she needed to concern herself about at the moment.
Waving Kerin of to a seat Alexia waited for her to become comfortable. She hoped Yasha stayed asleep a bit longer while she heard what the Blue had to say. "You are welcome Kerin Sedai. I was irritated before since I have had a very persistent visitor the past few days. It's a relief you are not her." Alexia smiled a bit, "What can I do for you?" As she waited for the girl to answer Alexia offered her some the lukewarm tea she had been sipping on.

Re: Tough Situations
A very persistent visitor? Kerin made a mental note of it so that she could return to it at some point. She also noted the careful look that Alexia gave her, doubtlessly pouring over Kerin's own changes since her return to the Tower. Things were definitely different, that was for sure. Between everyone . . .
Alexia and Kerin had almost become friends in Tear. Almost. Then there had been a fight with Kami, and Kerin had withdrawn, and withdrawn even more now that Kami was gone.
Turning away the offered tea, she began. "I'm sorry it's at such an unusual hour that I have come, but I was hoping to catch you alone." Kerin tried to smile once, twice, and gave up. "It's just that . . . well . . . we both know how bad of a state the Tower currently finds itself in. First I want to ask . . . do you have any intention of taking the Seat for yourself, or do you know anyone who does?"

Re: Tough Situations
Sipping her tea Alexia wanted to groan. She did not want to think about the whole situation with the Tower being leaderless. She put her cup down slowly and tried not to frown. "i have no plans whatsoever to become the next Amyrlin Seat. I basically do not want the stole and if I had it I would go mad." Her cheeks had pinked cause she was tired of fending off the same question. "I know you were just curious and I apologize for being cross with you but there are only so many times you can answer the same question nicely." Kerin just watched her and Alexia stared back at her, wondering if she understood her frustration. When the girl continued to sit as if made of stone Alexia went on with the second part of her query.
"As for knowing who would like to take the position there are many. Unlike you and I they feel that the weight of the Stole is circumstantial if not a figment of the other Amyrlins imagination. For the Yellows there is Isada Sedai and Arine Sedai. Personally Isada is too dreamy but she has a strong support group. As for Arine well she has not been back in the Tower for long but many of the Yellows repect her and wait to see if she will official throw in for the position. If she does even Isada will support her. For the Browns Fenris, Carnella, and Gisea are candiates. The Reds are of course trying to find one of their own but I have yet to ferret out who. The Greens and the Grays are just as closed mouth."
Sighing a bit Alexia prayed what she heard was not Yasha waking up. She sighed so the Blue would not her the muffled sound that came form her bedroom. Hope of all hopes maybe she will think I have a man with me. Quickly she went back to telling about the different canidates. "For the White Ajah Tanae Sedai has declined which leaves Hanna our.... their young sitter. And for the Blues well I have heard you are a top choice even though you are so young." When the girl's back seemed to go up Alexia shrugged. "Unlike other Aes Sedai I see you for what you are Kerin....young and maybe a bit disillusioned. Not to say you would not make a great Amyrlin but I am sure you would not want to be chained to the Tower in that way." Another noise made her grimace. She hoped Yasha had the good thought to listen before she left the room.
Yasha walked out of the room and would have hurried back the way she came if the other Aes Sedai had not seen her. Light I'm in trouble. Alexia's frown was fierce and yasha rubbed her starving belly. She had smelled tea and she wanted some badly. Now she would have to deal with Alexia and this Aes Sedai that looked familar to her some how.

Re: Tough Situations
Kerin nodded absently, listening to Alexia, cupping her tea with both hands and sipping it lightly. The hot liquid seemed to sear a path clear to her stomach, tingling afterwards. It was almost . . . pleasant. Much of life had lost it's rewards during her and Kamariana's last fight, and Kerin had become so irratated with the woman that she had severed the bond. The Three Oaths prevented lying, after all, and what she had said . . .
She snapped back to the present, lifting her green eyes to focus on Alexia. She was just hearing the same thing all over again. She had heard this before. She was tired of hearing this. She was setting herself to interrupt when a slight noise came from the other room. Only her intense Aes Sedai calm kept her eyes on Alexia while she expanded her awareness of her periphereal vision.
Alexia went on talking; either she hadn't noticed it, or she knew very well what was behind that door, and she wasn't willing to share. Kerin's midn went to work at once. It couldn't have been a man. Alexia had never shown much interest in them, and she seemed the type of person that wouldn't bring one back to the Tower even had she wanted to. It couldn't have been another Sister, or Kerin would have been able to sense her, in a way. Sense her ability to channel, anyway. She narrowed her eyes slightly, and then into the room walked a very-sleepy-looking Yasha.
Kerin stood bolt upright, dropping her tea. "You . . . you're supposed to be dead!" Kerin exclaimed. She looked to Alexia, green eyes on fire. "You dare hide her from the Tower? From the world? Light woman! She alone has the power to save hundreds of lives in Cairhein alone! Explain this!" She embraced saidar at the same time, slamming down wards all around the room. If Alexia had done this, then she had reasons to. And if she had reasons to, then there needed to be secrecy to them.

Re: Tough Situations
Anger was quick to churn up in Alexia. The little twit dared to demand answers of her. But then she thought it over, she was sure she would have actedthe same way if she had seen someone who was supposed to be dead walk into the room. Sighing over the wards she rolled her eyes. "Calm yourself Kerin. First of all I hide NO one from the Tower. If Yasha wished to proclaim herself alive she could. If anyone asked me about her I would answer truthfully. No one has asked and Yasha did not wish to make it known." Her gaze went back to her cup of tea. "And next time the polite thing to do when you set up wards in someone else's rooms is to ask them. As for explaining anything to you, well the short of it is that I found Yasha and Myrinna here in Tar Valon." Alexia then sipped her tea. She would not divulge anymore then that. If Yasha wished to speak to her about what she had planned to do to the former Red then it was her place.
Plus she could not hide the fact that she detested being demanded to do anything. Alexia glared at Yasha for a bit before going back to a neutral stare. The woman always caused problems.
Yasha made her way over to the tea and poured for herself. She had seen Alexia's glare and smiled. She was not going to let the woman badger her into some sort of submission. Yawning a bit she took a chair next to Alexia then sat down. The Blue sister she remembered from Tear continued to stand and Yasha waited. When she sat down she gave her a slight smile and drank some of her tea. "What is happening in Cairhien? I'm afriad I have been missing for a while. I had other things like killing Myrinna on my mind." Yasha almost grinned from the shock that momentarily appeared on Kerin's face. Alexia seemed to trust her or Kerin would not still be in the room so Yasha would somewhat trust her too. For now she only wished to hear information which she was sure the Blue had an abundace of.

Re: Tough Situations
Kerin slowly eased herself back into her chair. Her bright eyes followed Yasha across the room, the dark paint around the green accenting their intensity somewhat scarily. "In Cairhein? War," she replied simply. "The nobles are in chaos following Caladin and . . . your own death. Understandably."
Channeling swiftly, thin tendrils of air wrapped around the shattered pieces of glass. Another quick melded weave, and the cup was whole again. Yasha eyed the glass warily as Kerin filled it with tea once more and calmly sipped at it. As much as she hated to admit it, the tea was warm, and sweet, and it had been a very long time since she had felt warmth inside.
Or anything sweet, for that matter.
"You have no need to worry about me. I will hold this news as secret as I can; if directly asked, of course, I will be unable to deny it. But there isn't any reason to . . . think this, is there?" Kerin raised the glass with both hands, cupping it as she sipped it, peering over the edge at Alexia once more. "And . . . if I may ask, since I have a haunting feeling that I am perhaps one of the last women you can trust here in the Tower . . . how did you find them? And where is Myrinna? I would like to speak with her."
