WWII Trivia of the week.
The Ice Ship
During WWII a British scientist came up with a novel idea. A floating ice platform 400 feet wide and 8000 feet long to be used as a portable airfield in the Atlantic. A metal frame was built of pipes with coolant flowing thru them. The frame was then sprayed with a mixture of water & sawdust and allowed to freeze. A quarter size model was actually built and tested in a lake in Britain. It lasted all summer.
Never used during the war.
Cool, huh?
