Just like Hugh Jackmen in X1, he came in, played Wolverine, and we felt like he'd been around for years, but it was a breakthrough role, unknown is the best route, plus it's cheaper for the budget, which is already big for existing cast members.
I also think in order to avoid disappointment, don't think as if Gambit is in X3, he's not, Beast has been menstioned by producers and the danger room, it's a big cast already, maybe this is the xmen for the films at this time, it's very difficult pleasing every element of the comics and its characters.

Ew, Ok....WHO voted for Orlando Bloom? wow....no way man. That cant happen.
But lemme tell yous what could (and SHOULD) happen....
The only three actors that I know of who would be fit for the role of "Gambit", would be: 1. Brad Pitt; 2. Matt Damon (with his hair died brown); or 3. Chad Michael Murray. (again...with his hair died brown as well).
And now that i think of it....Brad Pitt and Matt Damon might not be as expensive to sign as I thought. Because, both of them are really down-to-earth people....and theyre not really money-hungry....even though they ARE A-list.

James Franco: He's my choice at the moment, he's still an unknown. If anyone has watched Freaks and Geeks you'll see what i mean, he's even played a cajun in another movie. He's got the right look and the talant.
Orlando Bloom: I don't mind him, it's a possibility, he's never really in bad movies and i can see him play Gambit.
Johnny Depp: Although he's my fave actor of all time, he wont take up the role. He tends to go for roles in a lot of underground movies. Even though he still has a mid 20's look for a 40 year old guy and looks and acts like Gambit when he's interviewed...just can't see it happening unfortunatly.

i'm not in favor of any of those actors, i do like mr. bloom, but not for Remy,none of those actors are sexy enough, i don't know who should play him, or how old they are going to make him in the next movie, that's my 2 cents

Gambit!
I am in love with the idea of Stuart Townsend (LXG)playing Gambit. He has the poise and dignity to do it. And he's not super big in the acting world... not like Johnny Depp or Orlando Bloom. He's sort of a slightly unknown...

Im for Johnny Depp playing Gambit all the way. He is an excellent actor who has shown his talent for mastering accents many a time. Plus he has that sort of, rugged loveable rogue look about him
What about Val Kilmer or Vincent Perez from "City of Angels'?
Perez is actually French and Spanish. But he speaks fluent French. He already has Remy's accent as well.

I voted for other because I think that Heath Ledger could do a good job except that he is from Australia.
What ever happened to the guy who was rumored to play Gambit in the first film? Jared Letto was the guy. He was the star in Urban Legend if you don't remember.

In my opinion, I think that none of the three mentioned could pull off Gambit. If I was to choose someone, I would definitely go with Harry Connick Jr. I understand he is not an actor, save for his "outstanding" role in Hope Floats , but I heard a rumor that they were thinking of casting him in the role and have been contemplating it and it just looks right in my mind.
