au pairing? I'm really interested in spending some time afloat, but unfortunately I'm unable to make the commitment of investing in my own boat. This is due to financial restrictions as well as a total lack of experience, other than a short boating holiday years ago. Anyway, what I was wondering was: would there be any demand for an au pair among boat-owners, especially those who move around a lot? I'm an experienced child-minder with references, and am totally willing to do any sort of work in exchange for room and board. Does anyone have any idea of whether there's ever any demand for au pairs, or where the best place to advertise my availability would be? (Or is this just a horrendously bad idea?) |

Re: au pairing?
It is a good idea - but for the prob that most boats are limited in space - so it would be difficult for livaboard families to fit you in!
Have you looked into getting a small boat? U don't need to be rich - my narrowboat only cost 11 000 - & that has electric lighting, hot cold water, shower, etc. With such a boat, you could offer an au-pair service with your own accomodation - moor up with the family. Getting a mooring can be the hardest part of being a livaboard. |
