chemicals in the workplace?
Ok, I really need some input. I'm a chemist at a bio-pharmaceutical company. I spend most of my time in the lab around chemicals. Nothing horrible, but not really nice either. Of course we use the proper safety precautions (gloves, goggles, etc).
I don't know what to do when I get pregnant. I can't afford to just quit my job, at least not until after the baby is born. Also, I'm new at this company so I don't know if it will be feasible for me to do 'desk work' for 9 months.
This is a good question Steph. Have you spoken with any of your co-workers regarding the chemicals and any effects they may have on a pregnant woman? I don't think it will hurt to ask some of the other women, maybe ones with small children. We use chemicals where I work, but I work in the office away from the chemicals. Do you know enough about the chemicals you handle, if not you should do some reading up on them and see what possible solutions you may come up with. Keep us posted.
