creating a book of shadows for personal use
I have not yet created my own book of shadows, I have contimplated using a regular notebook , a three ring binder, buying a leather bound journal, but I saw a show on personal journals once that seems like a lovely idea. This lady went to yard and garage sales looking for old beautiful books, ones she wouldnt necessarily read but had the wonderful handcrafted covers. she then carefully removed the pages with a box cutter or exacto knife as to not damage the covering, she then used a steal punch and punched holes along the edges she cut writing paper to fit the books and then used leather pieces or ribbon to bind it all together, it gave that old look of character. I think it was a great idea, any one else have any thoughts on this?

Re: creating a book of shadows for personal use
I made my first book so that no one would find it i made it look like an old book of my dads that he had thrown out. I did it much the same way you were talking about but in a much more childish way... I just pulled out the spine of the book and glued in a note book. It worked for a while untill the dog got it.after that I just used a note book cheeper that way
Now mine is a pretty book with a fairy drawing on it called Queen Mab. I don't have to worry about anyone reading it I wrote it all in Theben.....looks good just make sure your used to reading it first becouse it will give you a headache if you have to go and decode your own book. Trust me

Re: creating a book of shadows for personal use
Mines Written in Pict/Celtic At least the one that contains my most intimate spells and rituals. That one is a leather bound bought journal.
I reccomended to my students going cheap...do the notebooks...until they are 100% positive they wish to walk the path of the craft. No sense in loading on expenses if you only plan to burn it six months down the road.
I like 3....maybe because its such a sacred number lol. In one, I ask them to record their dreams, any spells or poetry that comes to them in the second, and anything they feel they want, need or have learned in the third. I feel learning about the gods/goddesses of the ancients is a valuable lesson, especially for those who have tarot decks depicting them. A book of shads is a valuable tool for any witch, I dont feel the actual book means much as much as the content. But making it special helps to tune it to yourself, thus boosting what is written within if that at all makes sense.
My Tarot Journal has a pretty picture of a lilly on the cover (my flower of course ) and I stuck a bubble gum machine shiny sticker that says GODDESS on it...Because I of course use the Goddess tarot
I have an idea for making one with a wood bound cover and my own personal insignia on the cover, but since I am not an artist, I am having trouble making an insignia I like!

Ya know I have wondered that myself! Mayhap we feel the magick of life even after death and feel our works protected by it?
And as for a virtual BOS...I have a program called Idaily Diary...its free at download.com and easily manageable to keep your stuff neat n tidy. But I do keep the others for more personal reasons...though cant 'splain why
