Re: Anybody here? @ Rogue.
My choice for Bilbo? James McAvoy who played Mr. Tumnus in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe film.
I would hope that Ian Hom wouldn't be cast in the role. Great actor, who did a fantastic job in LotR, but credibility would be strained if he played the role of his character from decades before. Considering that he's even older than he was when he played Bilbo the first time around.
Re: Anybody here?
james McAvoy.. is that Tumnus' name? Aha!
He was soooo good as Tumnus.... but maybe he's a little too young and goodlooking to play Bilbo... although I guess Bilbo was the same age in the Hobbit as frodo was in LotR, right? Hmm...
I still don't think hobbits are allowed to look that charming! Bilbo should be more bumbling/confuzzled.

Re: Anybody here?
James may be able to pull the bumbling part off, since he's a pretty good actor.
And I believe that he's also older (2 than Elijah was (around 19-20) when he first started to film RotK. I always thought of Bilbo (The Hobbit time) as being older than Frodo (LotR time), even thought they were supposed to be around the same age.
Re: Anybody here?
Bilbo must seem older because for the beginning of FotR, Frodo is young... it begins with the party and he's 33.... so the fact that he's actually 50 when he sets off doesn't really sink in. Certainly not in the movie, where they cut off, oh, 17 years.

Re: Anybody here?
Yep. because they were basically the same age when they set off on their adventures.
Of course, Frodo doesn't seem to age in those 17 years. haha. His eyes get baggier as they go along, presumably because of the weight of the ring on his shoulders.
Re: Anybody here?
he's not supposed to age tho... because the Ring keeps him "young"?
haha Feeling old? Try our newest Ring of Power, guaranteed to keep you looking young. Warning: prolonged use may result in invisibility.
Wow. It seems I only think to stop by here when I'm actually reading LotR again. Anyway, no more empty promises, but I do have internet access that I don't plan on losing for a long while, so I'll be interested to see if anyone else stops by in 2008...if you do and you remember the good old days, please say hello.
Who knows, maybe we can get a round of Quote Game going again, which, in all honesty, is really what brought me back this time. I just read...
Quote:If this is shelter, then one wall and no roof make a house.
...and that is what brought Amon Hen back to my mind. I seem to remember seeing that one in the Quote Game long ago.
Okay, that's enough for now. I can only guess that it will be a long while before this message is read. We shall see!
Um, wow, that quote is sadly straining my memory. Erm, could it be on Caradhras when they have to shelter next to the rock-face? It's Gimli for sure.
Good to see some life in 08... I definitely remember the good old days, although I guess it was mostly inspired by movie fervour. Oh well. On with the quote game, I say!

HoWdY!
Right location, but wrong person. Sam said that line to Aragorn during the blizzard after he had mentioned that the cliff face was the only shelter they had passed on the way up.
Re: Anybody here?
Fingolfin has it on the quote. Yeah, it's hard to keep up, but I have a new laptop, so who knows? Fin, if you'd like to post a quote next time you get on, I'll try and check back in.
I'd even be willing to redo the site if people showed back up...we'll see what happens.
With all of these forums falling victim to the Yuku takeover, I'm wondering if this group will even exist in the future. Quite a few of my old ezboard haunts have disappeared for good. Others have lost all of their existing posts. I can't even directly log into ezboard anymore.
If you were to redo the site, it would probably be one of the few Tolkien sites from the old ezboard days left. Rohan went over to vBulletin a few years ago.
Alrighty, here's a quote just in case the forum doesn't cease to be in a few hours.
"Say not unscathed, but if you say unchanged, then maybe you will speak the truth...
is it Gandalf after he's come back from battling the balrog? is it?
haha i'm a little hyper.
seems the site's not deleted yet. I guess the heyday was during the moviecraze, and everyone who got hooked then has faded away... that leaves us old timers.
Re: Anybody here?
That's the first thing that came to my mind, too, Shieldmaiden. However, it appears it was Aragorn speaking to Boromir of Lothlorien just after Khazad-Dum (pg. 338 in the black 50th anniversary Houghton Mifflin edition):
Quote: 'A plain road, though it led through a hedge of swords,' said Boromir. 'By strange paths has this Company been led, and so far to evil fortune. Against my will we passed under the shades of Moria, to our loss. And now we must ender the Golden Wood, you say. But of that perious land we have heard in Gondor, and it is said that few come out who once go in; and of that few none have escaped unscathed.'
'Say not unscathed, but if you say unchanged, then maybe you will speak the truth,' said Aragorn.
Good times. I was glad to have a reason to go hunting through the Book again. I was also very surprised to see how much time had passed since my last post. Anywho, I would love to try again, so here's another quote for the old timers. Short and sweet, and possibly a bit diffiicult. Or is it...?

Wow! I finally figured out how to log onto this board... I've been trying to log into my ezboard account from the main page, but it always re-directs me to Yuku. And I can't find this board thru Yuku's search. I finally found it via google. haha
I really thought that Yuku would have changed this board as well as the others I belong to...
Sorry I didn't reply sooner haha, but yep Jes is correct.
