favorite lines from songs
Ever get lyric phrases just stuck in your head, constantly repeating. They frigging pop up from nowhere. Like somebody said before, its probably that 'sympathetic resonance'. Here are a few of my clingers, feel free to add on.

Hello darkness my old friend - Garfunkle (yeah, i know, this must be everybody's favorite)

Sheeeeee stoooood there laughing - Tom Jones (argh)

Your daddy's rich (ba dum dum) and your mom is good lookin - Gershwin.

I was feeling kinda seasick, the crowd cried out for more - I forget her name....

You give me fe-e-ver

Strummin my pain with his fingers. Actually that entire song is a favorite. Killing me softly!!! Love it love it love it!

Nobody knows....the trouble I've seen....

Man, this could go on for ever. I'll stop now.

favorite lines from songs
Way too many to list, but here's a few:

1. If I had a boat I'd go out on the ocean, and if I had a pony I'd ride him on my boat; and we would, all together, sail around the ocean. Me upon my pony on my boat.

-Lyle Lovett

2. I really don't mind if you sit this one out. My word's but a whisper, you deafness a shout.

-Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull)

3. You wouldn't know a diamond if you held it in your hand, the things you think are precious I can't understand.

-Steely Dan

You must be a youngster
Lyle Lovett is progressive country, Jethro Tull and Steely Dan are '70s rock.

Here are some links:

New stuff:

You left a stain - on every one of my good days . . . Disease Matchbox20

You'd hunt those lies - they'd be all you'd ever find. And that'd be all you have to know for me to be fine! Cry Faith Hill

Old Stuff (and most of you have seen this a whole bunch of times at the end of my posts):

Her arms are wicked and her legs are long - when she moves my brain screams out this song! Hello I Love You The Doors

The best is yet to come, and babe won't that be fine. The best is yet to come, come the day you're mine. . . Come the day that you're mine - I'm gonna teach you to fly. We've only tasted the wine. We're gonna drain that cup dry! The Best Is Yet To Come Frank. Ahh, Frank. (Sinatra, for the heathens)

I have songs zipping through my head most of the time to be honest, today’s friendly annoyances have been A day in the life by the Beatles-

I read the news today oh boy
Four thousand holes in Blackburn, Lancashire

Suzanne Vega’s Marlene on the wall

Even if I am in love with you
All this to say, what's it to you?
Observe the blood, the rose tattoo
Of the fingerprints on me from you

And a song by the band Elbow, called Powder Blue I think….

Your eyes are just like black spiders
Your hair and dress in ribbons. Babycakes
In despair or incoherent. Nothing in between
China white, my bride tonight
Smiling on the tiles

These I don’t mind – it’s when something awful gets lodged in and won’t let go :O

Oh, you mean like -

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale
a tale of a fateful trip
that started from this tropic port
aboard this tiny ship.

The Mate was a mighty sailor man
the Skipper brave and sure.
Five passengers set sail that day
on a three hour tour.
A three hour tour.

The weather started getting rough,
the mighty ship was tossed.
If it weren't for the courage of the fearless crew
the Minnow would be lost.
The Minnow would be lost.

The ship set ground on the shores of this
uncharted desert isle -
with Gilligan, the Skipper too,
the Millionaire and his wife,
the Movie Star, the Professor and Mary Ann
heeere on Gilligan's Isle . . . .

What? No, I didn't do that all by heart. Honest! :rollin

I often get a lyric in my head that I can't decipher. Lot's of lyrical phrases resonate with me, even though I can't make them out.

Either that, or I'll get a particular phrase stuck on repeat in my head, but I won't remember the song. That is the worst!

Here are a few that have crept around in my brain in recent months.

From The Argument, by Fugazi:

Here comes the argument.

From Debra, by Beck:

I wanna get with you, (only you, yeah)
and your sister.
I think her name's Debra.

From Bull In The Heather, by Sonic Youth:

Ten,
Twenty,
Thirty,
Forty,
tell me
that you
a-
dore me.

Most of the song Brave Captain, by Firehose, gets stuck in my head:

Captain,
there are doubts
regarding
your ability.

You need them
the men
need them

[chorus:]
there are doubts
in your ability
there's too many blinds
in your analogy

lieutenant
there is talk
pertaining
interpretation

the problems
describe them
problems

[repeat chorus]

The enemy
turned captain
the captain
turns civilian

the lieutenant
becomes casualty
the lieutenant becomes casualty

[repeat chorus]

There was a Beastie Boys line that got stuck in my pretty hard for a while, from the song The Grasshopper Unit:

Ooh my my,
I'm really not feelin it.
Ooh my my,
something's really wrong.

Of course, there's always the repeating line from A Love Supreme:

A Love Supreme

Then there's the opening to Hey, by the Pixies:

Hey! Been tryin' to meet'ya!

Ok, I'll stop there.

Cheers Crescendo, that's the Pixies in my head for the rest of the day.....and no bad thing! :D

I'm making good friends with you
when you're shaking your good frame
fall on your face in those bad shoes
lying... there... like... you're...

Best Imitation of Myself
This isn't really lines I have stuck in my head...more like the whole song, that i always sing to myself:

I feel like a quote out of context
with holding the rest
so I can be for you what you want to see

I've got the gestures and sounds
got the timing down
its uncanny, yeah, you'd think it was me

Do you think I should take a class
to lose my southern accent?
did I make me up
or make the face till it stuck
I do the best imitation of myself

the "problem with you" speech
you gave me was fine
like the theories about my "little stage"

I swore I was listening
but I started drifting
'round the part about me "acting my age"
now if it's all the time
i've people to entertain

you know i'll juggle one-handed
do some magic tricks and
the best imitation of myself

maybe i'm thinking myself in a hole
wondering - who I am when I ought to know
straighten up now time to go
fool somebody else
fool somebody else

last night I was east with them
and west within
trying to be for you what you want to see
but I can't help it if you
good and bad comes through
hanging out with no one but me

yeah, love, its all the same
it comes from the same place
and if my mind's somewhere else
you won't be able to tell
I do the best imitation of myself

yes, it's uncanny to see
you really think it was me
the best imitation of myself
do the best imitation of myself

-:rolleyes ben folds

There innocence will pull me through
De do do do de da da da

They're meaningless and all that's true

OK...it is not all I WANT to say to you...it's all I CAN. Dial tone is all I hear right now.

karaoke
Friends of ours, young newly married couple, have a karaoke machine at home. The guy rarely speaks, but the girl is SOOOO loud, believe me, a mic was te last thing we needed.
Actually, we ended up singing 80's music until 4:00 in the morning.

Oo Wa Oo Wa Oo Wa Oo Wa Oo Wa
Ohhhhh
We're half way there!
Ohhh oh
Living on a prayer!
Say my name
and we'll me make it I swear
Ohhh oh
Living on a prayer!
(Bon Jovi)

Ooohhh I loooove karaoke!

I can't sing anything unless it falls into my extremely limited range, but if it does, I'm away! :) Karaoke hosts love me because it always takes one person to make an idiot of themselves before the rest succumb to the booze and strut their stuff - trouble is, once I have the mic I usually get in a huff if somebody else has the temerity to want a go! :lol

Oh the shark babe,
Has such teeth dear,
An' he shows 'em....... pearly white,

Re: favorite lines from songs
Did I disappoint you?
Leave a bad taste in your mouth?
You act like you never had love...
You want me to go with out...

Its too late?
tonight?
to drag the past out
into the light?

We're one
But we're not the same
We've go to carry each other
Carry each other

Have you come here for forgiveness?
Have you come to raise the dead?
Have you come here to play Jesus
To the lepers in your head?

Did I ask too much?
More than a lot?
You gave me nothing...
Now it's all i've got.

We're one
But we're not the same
When we hurt each other
And we do it again
Each day

Love is a temple
Love the higher law
You ask me to enter
And then you make me crawl
But i can't be holding on
To what you've got
When all you've got is hurt...

Reality Check
That didn't happen to take place in Coral Springs, Florida, in the summer of 1992, did it?

I guess it was a popular song, so I'm sure there are many guys who received such letters. We should form a support group! ;)

Re: Reality Check
Actually, we were in the car, sadly holding hands, as his CD played that song...and we thought...that's our song...and it was goodbye.
Was it 1992? Actually, I was second year university, second semester, so it was 1998 for me! Its a magnificent song.
It sure has been long...
The beauty of songs is that they follow you everywhere. You could be in the frigging phillippines, turn on the radio, and, damn, there's that U2 song!

First time i hear this song, Jazz fm 102.2, beautiful
Its by Linda Ronstadt. Really gave me goosebumps.

They say into your early life romance came
And in this heart of yours burnt a flame
A flame that flickered one day and died away
Then, with disillusion deep in your eyes
You learned that fools in love soon grow wise
The years have changed you somehow, I see now
Smoking
Drinking
Never thinking of tomorrow
Non-chalant
Diamonds shining
Dancing
Dining
With some man in a restaurant
Is that all you really want?
No. Sophisticated Lady, I know
You miss the love you had long ago
And when nobody is neigh
You cry
