mediteranii Registered User Posts: 8 (4/22/06 2:41 pm) Reply	Re: What the hell are you talking about? the dalmatians have illirian originin but are also mixed with the croats coming from the east. the illiryans were weakened by the resistance and the wars against the romans. the slavs that came to these lands, were basiclly beggar thy neighbour type of people, who worked in the fields of the illiarian land lords. as the illirian population was being reduced by the wars and resistance with the romans, the slavic populatios were growing and thus consequently slavicising the illilirians. the slavication process was orchestrated by Romans and the bysantine empire, who tried to suppres at all cost this courageous people who fought for 2 centuries agains them. They could not do that to the taulanti, dardani, iliridei and other tribes in the south, due to the geostrategic situation and the battle hardened spirit of these peoples, where even Philippe and Alexandre the Great could not penetrate in these zones. The romans had the road via ignatia, but had poor control of the lands in this region; the collection of taxes was impossible. The romans like with the northern illirians, did the same thing with southern illirians that were present in large numbers in what is today greece. According to Roman report when they concured Athens (remember the greeks made no resisttance) at the time in Athens of the 5000 people, 3000 (!!) were illyrians. The lands south of athens were in complete domination by the hellens, to the north of athens, there was complete domination by the illirians. All the islands, with the exlussion of course of Corfu, and crete, were populated by hellens, who were also present in considerable numbers in the coastline Turkey. The population composition of Athens started to be changed, as the Romans employed and stimulated the hellens at the expense of the illirians.

DALMATIANS , or Dalmatian Croats if you like , are the legitimate inheriters of the Croatian Kingdom . Croatia STARTED in Dalmatia , DALMATIA is the the nest of Croatian civilization on the Adriatic . Some ciganin ( probably from Zagreb) is going to tell us otherwise .
