ezboard/yuku, with close to two year's of practice in migrating boards, is having too much trouble NOW trying to migrate my board (at least, when you WERE trying)

A member of the Yuku Team, who regularly works on migrations, tested migrating your board yesterday. The migration failed again.

This isn't a matter of "practice". It's a matter of something in your ezboard's file structure not "translating" from ezboard to Yuku correctly. The problem can and will be solved in some way, but not until there is developer time to solve it.

Your advertising promised that boards that did NOT want to be migrated would not be forced to

What was said was that no one would have to go to Yuku as long as the ezboard system still existed. The problem was, and is, that it is not technologically feasible to one day say, "Today we're shutting down ezboard, so move all the thousands of ezboard communities over to Yuku today." Involuntary migration had to begin at some point. It began around the first of this year.

Are you implying that someone is looking into finding that missing month of posting?

Yes, of course. James (who posted in this thread as eztest052606) has been notified that you still have data loss. I sent him the link to this thread and to your Helpdesk ticket, which is in his Restore queue. He will check to see what he can do about that problem. He is the only one who can do this.

What is the timeline for finding a more recent update to my board? Does this normally take an hour of search time, five hours, five days...?

Have you ever misplaced your car keys? When you discover they're missing, can you say, "It will take me ten minutes to find them"? There's no way to know how long the search takes until after you've conducted it.

How often does ezboard perform backups for paying, i.e. 'Gold', boards these days?

Gold boards are still backed up on a weekly basis, as far as I know.

Does ANYone with the authority to act have knowledge of this thread?

The people who are already working on this problem have the "authority to act." This isn't an authority issue.

Quote:
telling me it's my own fault for not jumping on the bandwagon a year earlier makes no sense.

I didn't say, or mean to imply that "it's your own fault". During the voluntary-migration period, it was more likely that a developer would have had the time to work on solving the migration problem. There is no way you could have known that.

WHY is my board a difficult one?

My guess is that there is something wrong in its file structure. It could be a bit of data corruption resulting from some previous restoral. That's only a guess on my part.

Quote:
just how many boards constitutes "a handful of remaining boards"?

"A handful" is relative compared to the hundreds of thousands of ezboard communities there were before the migration. Some boards, like yours, have mystery problems, foreign-language boards almost never migrate properly, etc. All require a Yuku developer's attention. I don't have a count for you, but the number of boards that need a Yuku developer's attention may be in the hundreds.

I'm sorry, I really can't refer you to any particular staff member at Yuku. Even if you could talk to them, the answer would be that your board is on the "wait" list until it's restored at ezboard, then it will be on the "approved" list until someone on the Yuku side is able to work on solving its migration problem. The developers' time is very tightly controlled, now, so I cannot tell you how soon that will be. I'd be surprised if anyone at Yuku could tell you that, at this point.

James will see about finding your missing posts as soon as he can.

Well, we're a very old board. We've been through a lot of changes.

And i know of at least ONE bit of mischief that some troll i used to know put on my board, that i've never been able to get rid of. But i dunno that his tampering is the problem. ...unless he worked for ezboard for a time, which is a possibility, if you ever hired programmers living in other states...

Yay, James! Go, James! </cheerleader
Any help at all would be appreciated.

Ah, i thought it was more along the lines of "Where is this board's restoral information within the Backup Storage files for the week of July 21?", not a needle in a haystack. As we've been waiting so long for ANYone to help us, i didn't want to sit in suspense for another open-ended, 'see you in 6 months or so' wait.

You hadn't said a migration tech or a developer was actually looking at our board until this particular post. The impression i am getting is that this will take a VERY long time to receive any attention; and we've been ignored for so very long already... i don't want to be put at the end of another long line of waiting boards simply because i had (courteously) not bugged everyone i possibly could all these months, but instead believed ChrisW when she had been told something would happen soon. And then it never did.

My intent is to hear from someone with authority to say to a Yuku developer "do this first, they've been waiting too long and it's not right" to speak to me. Or else to hear that person say "you are a small loss of income with only a few posters to lose, and no one cares if your board dies". Either way, I would have my answer. Who has this authority?

THANK YOU, Dollar and James, and to that migration tech who took a look at the board yesterday, for letting us know we are not just another bit of malfunctioning coding among many at the end of someone's already-too-long ToDo list. I truly hope we will have news soon.

If there was something wrong with a later backup, it's possible that they might have to search through different areas for bits of data from your board. I'm not saying that can or will be done in this particular case (I am no technician), but I know it has sometimes been possible to find data in that way. In that sense, yes, it can kind of be like looking for the proverbial needle.

Honestly, I don't know if that is possible. As I think I mentioned earlier, the Yuku developers' time is not very flexible now. Frankly, the current management does not usually engage with users. Whatever information is available regarding this situation will almost certainly need to be relayed by staff or a moderator like myself. I know that it is not a question of "put this board ahead of the rest" or "let it die".

I have left a note for staff. I'm sorry, that's all I can do.

i understand, Dollar; it must be difficult for you (and James) to be on the forefront of actually representing your company to consumers when your ability to find and institute a solution is limited by others with... dissimilar priorities.

Thank you for any help you can offer.
