He bumped her nose gently and his tail waved in its familiar arc. "What?" he asked, "You look puzzled...whyever would you?" He smiled gently still, his head still canted somewhat.
He watched her back away and he sat back on his haunches, watching her face for some indication of why she was behaving so...
Re: getting used to not fighting
She looked at him and let her heart her feeling come into her eyes. How to tell someone what they mean, how much she loved them? She was lost and tried to say it out loud.
"I ...I, came back to see you. Because you were here. It why I came back."
Re: getting used to not fighting
He blinked, his tail slowly stopped its wagging. He looked around, confounded for a moment. "You mean that, then, do you?" he said. "Raven, I'm so damned old...are you...are you sure?"
He didn't know what to do or to think. He had felt some affections for her, yes-but had kept feelings at bay because in his mind, his age was going to be a problem...one way or another.
Re: getting used to not fighting
He gently ran his muzzle against the thick soft fur of her neck in a wolven embrace. "I...I don't know what to say, Raven..." he whispered, sighing heavily. "What could you possibly see in a washed up fool like me?"
His mind was racing. He didn't want to say the wrong thing to her-he didn't want to hurt her-he cared for her...he did...but he just wanted to know why she, a wolf he considered most lovely, who could have commanded any mate she chose at any time, would feel anything at all for him.
Re: getting used to not fighting
He stepped back, blinking. "Raven..." he whispered. He rubbed his muzzle along hers gently. "What...can I do? I'm old...I'm...I'm a failure..." he said, his tail dropping at the memories he had put away.
He shook his head at tears in his eyes. "What..." he lost the words and again ran his muzzle into her fur.
Re: getting used to not fighting
"I've never asked you about your past. Because its done and over with. Have you failed me? Never."
She nuzzled him back, and licked his shoulder. He meant too much to her perhaps, but when she had been gone, alone and without help he had stayed in her mind.
Re: getting used to not fighting
He sighed, "I guess I haven't..." he said. "I know though...I missed you..." came a soft reply. "I missed you everyday.." He took in a deep breath, taking in her scent. She had been gone so long...and he was so glad to see her back...
Yet his haunted past was a bother to him...though the results were not to much his fault.
Re: getting used to not fighting
She nuzzled him, quiet scared and yet happy she told him. She just wished he would let it lie. No more talk of the past, and failures.
"You did?" she asked as she pulled away enough to see him.
He smiled vaguely. "Yes, I did..." he nuzzled her, "I missed you-I couldn't sleep some nights, I was so worried for you...I tried to come find you but the snows..."
Re: getting used to not fighting
She nuzzled him back. she hadn't thought any would care if she lived or died. She stayed quiet for a long time. She left when she did for a reason.
"I left in the snow so that no one would follow. I had," here she paused to phrase things as vaugely as she could, "things to finish."
Re: getting used to not fighting
He nodded, seeming to understand. He knew she had endured tragedy, and knew that whatever it was she had done, she had needed to, for her own sake. "It was wise of you then, to leave in the snow, for without it, I'd have followed you, unwitting of my interference." he said.
"But I am glad you're back..." he said. "It's been a dead land without you here."
Re: getting used to not fighting
She tilted her head confusled.
"You would have followed me?" She was baffled. Why would he have followed. She was the one hopelessly into him, she doubted it was the other way around.
Re: getting used to not fighting
"Yes, I would have followed you..." he said gently. "I missed you, and worried constantly about you when you were gone."
He bumped her muzzle lightly.
