To Kath
I hope you don't get too much flak for your post Kath, because I think you have more backers than you know.
Thank you for having the guts to speak your mind.
Re: crappy tape
have you thought about sending the petition to bbc4 ???
i think the chance that they broadcast it, would be much higher than publishing it on dvd, don't you think?
just a thought, that shot into my mind...

If I could help I would!
Options to plays as sold in many ways. They may or may not have full option to this. You must find out what type of rights this company has with respect to this play. Petitions only will result in the vertical file. Since this is important, why don't one person contact the company, suggest what it is you desire and take it from there. You guys are not understanding what legalities are in standing here. That is step one: from that point you can see what could be done to get a DVD, video or whatever that meets your needs.
This is only to indicate that there is a lack of understanding here and with your interest and desire you just might get things moving in the right direction for a future possibility. Nothing will happen in that arena until decisions about this play's future runs are finalized. Just offering advice that is sound as their is much more to your request than saying please.
..I'm sure that the people who organized the petition will get it into the right hands. Copies can be sent to all the people involved in the writing and production of the play.
A tape of the play may already exist. It's common practice to film dress rehearsals .......
There are several films of Broadway plays that have found their way to tape and TV. This practice goes all the way back to the 1960's. Tapes of "My Fair Lady" and "Becket" were shown on network and public television channels....

These generalizations without specific reasons only add false truths.
Exactly, but not with respect to distribution to a fan base or public sale. Those Broadway plays sold additional rights for TV production regarding their release on a limited basis on TV for specific reasons. This is a complicated affair and 200 + signatures or even 1000 could not give anyone the financial backing to make this happen. TV is big money and public television issues are tied to other corporate matters not included in that generalization. Many illegal tapes still run through NYC with respect to both plays and movies. There are tapes already floating for Lord of Rings and Chicago as an example. I have no doublt illegal copies have already been made at this theater as I have seen tapes running myself.
I wish you success but it will not happen this way and the fan aspect is not popular these days in the West End so that will not impress anyone especially this company. Don't wish to add anymore but hope someone will take all this fine effort in the right direction by contacting the appropriate parties. If they would have put this to the right parties at the beginning, a petition would not be now circulating. It only says that all this is at this point alone.
This play is NOT written for video or any other format and I seriously doubt anything will get released in its present form. Maybe there is plans for another adaptation and editing for that medium in the future? You should all advice those heading this endeavor to begin with those executives that are promoting this current play.
Re: Good intents only! Wish you luck!
