Aiarna, who'd been honing her skills with her bow, turned and looked over at Ellienad. After a moment Master Sellienda had turned his attentions to another student and Aiarna stepped over to Ellienad. "Hello. I am Aiarna." She smiled. "I have noticed you in Master Selliendas fighting arts group before but I never introduced myself. Are you a new student of Master Sellienda?"

Hair tied firmly back, she whirled around again, fighting off imaginary opponents. Some of her movements were almost to fast to see, and at that speed, her simple staff became a killer weapon.

"Good, that's better. Try to keep your feet right under you, trust your sense of balance. Your recovery is getting better, but it still needs some work. Try a double slash to a far hit, then recovery to balance."

She did as she was told. Two cutting hits down, then a hard hit out as far as she could easily reach, then retracting it all to balancing, poised, ready for almost any movement or attack.

"Well, you're quite fast indeed. Comes of being Elven, to be sure. I'd say you could fight off, say, fifty orcs or ten, maybe fifteen Men if they weren't very good. Against an Elf, on the other hand, you'd stand only a chance of a victory. No chance, if they'd had any sort of proper training. But then, of course, I very much doubt you'll ever seriously have to fight an Elf..."

"Well," Ellienad replied, "perhaps I'd improve if I could practice fighting one. We must be prepared for any eventuallity, even Elf against Elf. Will you help me, Master Sellienda?"

Sellienda considered her for a moment, then nodded. "Be warned, though, I'll not kill ye, but neither will I leave thee standing. You'll have aches for a week."

"Is that so indeed? Very well, I won't complain. And what, Master, if I make you fall down?"

He looked at her with equal parts scorn and amusement. "That will not happen."

Ellienad bowed her head to the teacher, though his scornful words stung. She knew he was probably right, and the knowing shamed her.

He stood up lightly from where he had been sitting on a bench. "Come then, if I must bruise you let's get it over with."

She looked at him in surprise. "But you have no weapon!"

He gave her a look of amused pity and waved his hands in front of her face. "He I stand, fully armed for the occasion. Will you attack, or must I? Come, I'll give you that, at least."

This last taunt was simply too much. She could feel anger rising up inside her, and felt a driving need to answer taunt for taunt, to make him feel ...ashamed, as she did. Suppressing those dark feelings, she brought her staff up. She would never make jest of her teacher. He had given her too much, in learning and time, for her to do that. And she respected him, despite his sharp tongue. She swung her staff at him halfheartedly, not really wanting to hurt him. He sidestepped easily, and raised a lofty eyebrow at her. "Come on, you can do better than that." She attacked in earnest, then, but nothing she did could hit him. He slid away like quicksilver from her staff. Frustrated and tired, she moved as fast as was humanly possible, but he was always quicker. No longer retreating, he just stood there, warding off her tired blows easily with one arm or the other, his face bored. Then, just when her muscles started to feel weak, he glided swiftly forward and, with a movement so quick that her eyes couldn't follow it, much less block it, she was lying on the ground a few feet away.

Just as quickly, he was standing over her. He knelt down and extended a hand to her. "I'm sorry. You'll be feeling that for a bit. How are you?"

Taking hold of the offered hand, she stood up quickly, if not elegantly. "I'm fine thanks, except for my rear and my pride. Thank you for the ...lesson. I must go to Painting, now." She bowed and left, dusting herself off.

Sellienda watched her go with amusement. Then he turned away and stretched, waiting for his next pupil.

Daisy: Hey hun... I'm going to go grab something from the room. I'll be right back.

Legolas: Oh ok... I'll be waiting here. Reading this book.

Daisy: Have fun.

*Daisy leaves to go to her room in Rivendell. Once there she goes over to her bag that lies on the bench by the window. She went to search for her other bottle of ink, and another quill. She put her hand in the bag and found a ring. Silver none the less. She looked at it with caution then got a good, but weird kind of feeling from it. Once Daisy grabbed her ink and quill, she left the room running down the stairs to show the ring to Legolas. She got back to where he was sitting and started talking to him.*

Daisy: Hey uh... Hun.

Legolas: May I help you sweetie?

Daisy: I found this ring in my bag. Where did it come from?

Legolas: My mother. She gave it to me before she died. She told me if I were to marry sometime, I was to give it to my significant other. She didn't care what race who ever it would have been. I was going to surprise you tonight with it.

Daisy: But why? We're already married.

Legolas: I know. But do you remember the ring I gave you when I asked you to marry me?

Daisy: Um... *her eyes widen* That one! I have been looking all over for that. I couldn't find it. I should have known you took it. But why were you going to surprise me with it?

Legolas: To remind you of the first time we met.

Daisy: Oh...

Aiarna smiled at Ellienad. "Oh, I grew up in Rivendell. I've known Master Sellienda for as long as I can remember. He taught me the fighting arts and later he taught me archery. The bow is my weapon of choice though I can use many others and my hands as well." She held up her bow to emphasise her words. "Tell me, what is your name?"

Aiarna shook her head. "No, my parents do not live here. My mother has gone to the Grey Havens in the west and my father went to fight in a battle many years ago and was never heard from again. He was a ranger by the way, so I'm really half-elven though you wouldn't notice it." She smiled. "I have remained here because I love Rivendell and my friends here. Also, I am distantly related to Lord Elrond through my mothers sisters side of the family so he's technically my uncle. And his children are my cousins.." Aiarna chuckled. "He acts like an uncle too, a wonderful, kind, loving, and wise uncle. His children are wonderful too." Her face became serious. "I hope Brillond has been able to find Elawen, its dangerous to travel alone these days and she could get hurt, or worse. Especially if she left with the intention of going to Aragorn...she gets in moods like that and thinks of no one but her self and what she intends to do." Aiarna shook her head then looked at Ellienad and smiled. "Anyways enough of that, tell me Ellienad are you enjoying your time here in Rivendell?" She paused. "I don't mean to pry or anything but you seem a little tense or perhaps frustrated. I sensed it from the way you threw yourself into your lesson today."

"No, that's all right." Ellienad paused for a moment, considering the question. She decided that, though Aiarna seemed alright, they didn't really know each other well enough. Anyway, she herself wasn't entirely sure. "I suppose I'm just feeling frustrated at the moment. I'd rather not discuss it." In a distant part of the grounds, a bell rang. "It's time for my next class. I have painting. What about you?"

(It'd be cool if Aiarna had that next too :) ))

Aiarna smiled. "Actually I do have painting today, in a way. I'm not a student of Lady Lelawen but I do help her from time to time. Today I'm going to be helping her demonstate some painting techniques and then I'll be her assistant in her dance class. Extra help for the beginners." She chuckled. "Well, shall we go then? Lady Lelawen is expecting me to be there a little early as I am helping her today. I can't wait too because we're painting scenes of Lorien. Have you ever been to Lorien?"

Daisy: Another question, hun.

Legolas: Hmm?

Daisy: Why would you want to give it to me again?

Legolas: So that I could do this. *pulls out a mithril chain from his pocket* Let me have the ring please?

*She hands him the ring. He hangs the ring on the chain, and clasps the necklace around her neck. Daisy does a quick tug at the chain, and lets it go.*

Daisy: *looking up at him* Thank you, hun.

Legolas: *smiling down at her* You're welcome.

"Lorien? Yes, I've been to the Golden Wood twice. It's a very beautiful place. I've never tried to paint it before, though. This should be interesting." The two walked swiftly to Lady Lelawen's rooms, and went in. They were the first ones there. Ellienad went to retreive her painting things from the corner shelf.

Aiarna walked to the head of the room and sat before a canvas that had been set there for her. Neatly arranging her paint and brushes she made ready for the class. Aiarna stood and walked over to where Ellienad sat arranging her painting things. "Do you enjoy painting Ellienad?"

Aiarna walked to the head of the room and sat before a canvas that had been set there for her. Neatly arranging her "Yes. It's one of the highlights of my day. Not that I'm especially good -far from it- but I love it anyway. And I am getting better, if I do say so myself." She filled her glass with water, and opened her small set of watercolour paints. Just then, Lady Lelawen called the class to attention. "All right class. Today, we will be painting Lothlorien. You may use oils, but I would suggest watercolours. Make sure you get enough water to paint the light, as I've shown you. Oh, and today Lady Aiarna has come to lend a hand." A small round of applause, and some cheers from the students who knew her ensued.

Aiarna blushed as the students cheered and clapped. When the applause had stopped she nodded at Lady Lelawen to continue. Aiarna set out her paints in front of her and readied her brushes, she smiled at the students who sat waiting for further instructions.

((Grr, make me do all the work :lol :) ))

When the applause had died down, Lelawen turned to a large sheet of paper on the wall. She started drawing with some charcoal, so all the students could see easily.

"The main element of Lothlorien is the trees. Mostly Mallyrn, they range from saplings to pillars that stretch almost a quarter of a mile high. The trunk stretches up smoothly for about two-thirds of its total hight, with few large branches. At that point, it splits into four to seven main branches, which spread up and out to form the upper third and canopy of the tree. In the larger trees, a selter can be built where the trunk splits. These talans can be anything from a single windscreen to an elaborate dwelling place.

"The trees have very large leaves, which turn golden in autumn. However, they don't fall until the next spring. The undergrowth consists of some ferns, a lot of moss, and small bushes. All the undergrowth tends to be tall and thin, reaching for the light. There are many small dirt paths, no major roads."

"Oh, and the bark of the trees is grey, bordering on blue. The colour lightens as the trees get older. It is exceptionally smooth, but very strong. It doesn't usually peel, unless the tree is very old or diseased. However the tree itself is not a smooth tube, it has a wavey surface; enlarged verrigations. The roots almost all go straight down; surface roots come from the smaller floor plants, so they are usually quite small."

She turned to the class. "Any questions? Very well then, begin."

Re: Re:Re:re
Aiarna selected a brush and, dipping it into her chosen watercolor, began her painting. Abover her hung a tilted mirror so the students could watch her and see the techniques she used. Starting with a few broad strokes her painting soon began take on the look of tall majestic trees, graceful ferns, and winding paths. Eventually she added some depth to the painting by adding a few dwellings of various sizes and various distances from the foreground of the painting and the background. Soon Aiarna picked up a smaller brush and began detailing the painting. From tiny leaves to elves walking along a path. Her experience showed as she expertly placed her strokes. She stopped for a moment and surveyed her painting. Taking a tiny bristled brush she placed her signature in the bottom right hand corner of the painting and was finished. Turning the easle that her canvas stood upon Aiarna revealed the finished painting to the class. "I'll call it 'The Paths of Lorien'." She smiled. "Any questions about the techniques I used?"

One of the younger Elves raised her hand. "How did you DO that!?!" The class laughed. Another Elf raised his hand. "I can't get the shape of the Elves right." Aiarna walked over to him, and began showing him how to do it.

Ellienad turned to her own paper. Using many of the same techniques Aiarna had, her picture soon began to take shape. A large Mallorn trunk took up most of the right third of the picture. From there, the trees faded smaller and farther away off to the left. Then, in the second tree from the right, she painted as small talan. There was an Elf standing in it, looking out beyond the line of trees. As his features took on a life of their own through her paintbrush, she hummed softly to herself. Suddenly she stopped in surprise and looked at the Elf she had painted. Through no concious intention of her own, the Elf had become Brillond. She frowned, but there was nothing she could do about it now. She concentrated on the forest floor. Ferns grew under her small paintbrush. She used fairly dark colours, dappled sunshine with shadows in between.

{Hehe, slip of the paintbrush eh? Ellie wouldn't be falling for Brillond would she?;) It would be weird however to have Brillond with someone else on this site then have him be married on another site...my my, Brillond just gets more and more interesting to play:) }

As Aiarna made her way from student to student looking at their progress she found herself by Ellienad. She raised an eyebrow at the elf in the painting but said nothing. Aiarna smiled. "You're doing wonderful Ellienad, you have real talent. Your painting is beautiful, and you make the elves look so real." She continued to smile knowingly. "Do you have any questions or need help with anything?"

Yeah, I have a question, She thought to herself. How did HE get on my paper! Out loud, she said, "No, I don't think so. I think I just need practice." She gestured to the half-done picture. "Do you see anything I'm doing wrong?"
