Re: The Frozen North
*Carth ran up, panting and gasping for breath. The boots were heavy.*
"I... I don't want to kill you... I'm just... I was just trying to find out... who you are."
*Carth stopped and caught his breath for a moment*
"I'm a wizard. I was trained in the arts of the mind... Please, don't be frightened, I simply needed to know who you were, or if I could trust you. I believe I can."
*Carth extended his hand in a greeting, then thought better of it and knelt in the deep snow.*
"You're a noble at that, and I respect greatly your lineage. Please, just return to the house. You can trust me."

Re: The Frozen North
*Eruanne stared into Carth's light eyes for a long minute, her own deep ones watchful. He looked into her eyes steadily, the slightest hint of desperation in his eyes.
She sighed and extended her hand to the elf kneeling in the snow. A strong gust of wind blew her fiery hair around her face.*

"I don't really have a choice do I? Here, on this ice-covered rock, there isn't anyone to save me and Eru above, I cant save myself."
*Eruanne gave a slight laugh as Carth opened his mouth in protest.*
"Nay, I said that in jest, my lord. Please, rise. We shall return to my home."
*The two walked back in silence, the wind blowing their hair and cloaks about. Presently, Eruanne said,*
" Since you have discovered that I am indeed the lost daughter of Fingon, I should probably tell you my name."
*She darted a quick glance as she spoke, but Carth's face was impassive. She continued in a low voice*
" I am not Aralle..but the people here do call me that. It means "strange woman". My real name is Eruanne Vanimelda and I am the long-lost sister and heir of Erenion Gil-galad."

((OOC: Barrow, I wont be here for some time, either you post and wait till I come back for the reply, or you continue playing Eruanne as well...it works both ways, as long as you dont kill poor Eruanne..she doesn't trust Carth yet;) ))

Re: The Frozen North
*They walked on in silence towards the little hut, the icy wind blowing their hair back. Eruanne snuck up a glance at Carth's face. It was stern in its immobility, but ruggedly handsome. As if he felt her glance on him, Carth looked down. She quickly looked away, a slight blush spreading over her face.
A powerful gust of wind blew her back, making her stumble. A strong hand caught hold of her just before she fell. Setting her up, Carth continued walking towards the hut. Falling behind him, Eruanne reflected wryly on the little dagger lying on the floor..that grip made it quite certain that even if she had been able to use it, it wouldn't have really made a difference.
By now, they had reached the hut. Quietly, she passed through the door that had been held open for her.*

Re: The Frozen North
*Carth stepped through the door, brushing off the snow from his knees. He now knew who this elf maiden was, had a warm place to at least stay the rest of the day, and his headace seemed to be gone from the little run. This was better than he had expected.*
*Carth looked on the floor in front of him. A small dagger. Perhaps Eruanne was better prepared than he had thought at first. He glanced at her nondescriptly as he took a seat once again.*

Well... I'm thankful you decided to return and allow me to warm my feet with a bit of company he said pleasantly, but with a tinge of playful sarcasm, as he threw off his boots.
So, what really brings you so far north? What do you know about the world out there?

Re: The Frozen North
*Eruanne busied herself with the relighting of the stove, thinking up an answer for the questions. It was impossible to hide the truth from him, that much she now knew. Dusting her hands, she took her place in the small armchair across Carth. She picked up some books that had fallen down in her flight and then looked up to meet Carth's eyes without the slightest glint of fear in them.*
" During the Seige of Barad-Dur, I was sent to live in Forlindon. By the time I left, I had been told that none of my family remained..all had passed westwards. So I decided to follow them.
With the elves of my house, I came towards Forodwaith and was to have left on the ship but we were attacked by a party of white wolves and the ship sank after hitting a rock."
*Eruanne gazed sombrely into the fire, her blue eyes turned inwards, remembering the terror and pain of the night. Absently, she pushed up the sleeve of her gown and rubbed the thin jagged scar on her arm.*
"The people of these lands were kind enough to give me a home, though they feared me. So I live here, in the north, because I have nowhere else left to go.
"As for the outside world, I know naught. But you, you have travelled through it! Tell me about it! Is it the same as it used to be?"
*She frowned as a thought came back to her.*
"Earlier on you said that you thought you'd never see me again. What did you mean?"

Re: The Frozen North
*Carth sat back slightly in the chair. This was interesting to say the least. Surprising that she'd not left in so long...*
I've seen you before... Probably when you left. And as you said, your family has been rather I did quite a bit of observing during the Siege and the time before it. The purpose for that is my own.

None the less, my... mentor told me that I was the brother of Dior. How accurate that is I'm not sure, since I was rather rejected from birth. They don't take very kindly to my abilities I assume.

*Carth sat back and sipped the mea that he had left. Eruanne looked somewhat nervous, but that was to be expected... He looked at her carefully for a moment while her back was turned to pick something up, and quickly glanced down again as she turned back towards him. He spoke gently this time.*

And wolves you say... I'm sorry to hear that. The creatures this far North are rarely friendly, and not much better could be said of the humans sometimes... So, it's news you want? I've not been out in the past few years, but I'll tell you what I can.

*Gilithar proceeded to tell Eruanne a basic history since the siege, although he said he wasn't able to tell her anything of Lothlorien. They didn't particularly like him there.*

Why have you stayed up here so long anyway?

Re: The Frozen North
*Eruanne looked at Carth for a long minute, her deep blue eyes mesmerizing. The spell was broken when she shook her head and gave a slight laugh.*
"No, hir nin, I have never seen you before in my life. Not even when I was that young. Never have I forgotten a face that has come before me. You know me from somewhere else, but not Lindon. Perhaps there is a reason and you wish me not to know it."
*She did not press him for an explanation.Throwing some more wood into the fire, she continued,*
"Do you mean that your family threw you out when you were born? Just because you are a spell caster?
If you are indeed the brother of Dior, then we are linked distantly, for Dior is the grandfather of one of my kindred, Elrond Peredhil. I oft wonder what happened to him, during the Siege, for he was staunch and brave of heart."
*Eruanne sank into silence again. Outside, the sun sank away and darkness crept over the skies. The wind quietened down slightly and small pinpricks of light could be seen through the window. The flickering glow of the fire surrounded them, playing upon Eruanne's fiery head. In the dim lighting, she looked like an elf-child lost in the storm that raged outside. She listened to Carth's stories, laughing at places, sombre at others.*
" Why have I stayed up here so long? It's not like I have any place to go. As I've told you, my family has been all but removed from existence. Any family in Valinor think that I have died here and thus, no ship has ever come here from the west again. So I remain here."
*The laughter that had been on her face during the story died out. They sat side by side in silence, neither knowing what to say. After sometime, Eruanne stirred and stood up. She looked down at Carth and asked, half shyly, half warily,*
"Perhaps you will stay for dinner? That is, if you have no where else to go?"

Re: The Frozen North
*Carth considered for a moment the prospect of a decent meal and a warm seat instead of his rations in the snow. He chuckled. Not much of a choice!*
"I would be honored to stay for a meal, assuming I won't be a burden on your resources.
My family had its reasons for disowning me, so I'm not particularly bitter. All things considered, I shouldn't be. I've usually got what I need to survive and then some.
*Carth watched the firelight dancing on her, and listened to the storm outside. He could trust her... probably... He put his pack down on the floor with a "thud" and smiled in a genuinly friendly manner.*

"No, you won't be a burden on any resources. My friend Narcho always comes this way with rations twice every week and there is enough food to feed an army!"She smiled and went to the back of the house. Soon, a deliciously tangy aroma filled the air. Eruanne's voice floated out into the room*
"Well, if you're happy then I suppose its not so bad about losing your family...do you mind shetar leaves? No? Good....but it must have been difficult at the beginning."
*Eruanne flitted in and out of the room, laying the table and bringing out the dishes. Finally, she came up to Carth and with a friendly smile, invited him to the table,*
"Dinner is ready. Care to eat?"

*Carth had stirred uncomfortably at the mention of the beginning of the time without his family. Now as he ate, he spoke, catiously, between mouthfulls.*
"It was... difficult. I had some... others that helped me along. As well as... helped me develope my abilities."
*Carth looked up at her in a quizical manner, and said*
Have you ever... eh... been in any sort of a battle? Or even near one? I'm still a bit puzzled.
Oh, good food I must say! Complements to the chef!"
*Carth chuckled for a moment and waited for a resopnse*

Re: The Frozen North
*Eruanne didn't question him about these mysterious friends. He didn't seem to want to talk about any of them.
Her eyes widened slightly in suprise at his questions...why would he be puzzled?*

"Well, I have never fought in one..my family never taught me how to fight. But I lived the starting of my life in a battlefield. Beleriand was destroyed just a few years before my birth and there was disunity everywhere. Orcs were attacking the elvish settlements. It was at this time that I lost my mother."
*She paused here to take a bite of her dinner. Swallowing, she continued.*
And then I was kidnapped and spent the next few fifty years surrounded by cutthroats. But no, I never fought in any battle myself."
*Eruanne blushed rosily and smiled at his compliment.*
"Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Re: The Frozen North
*Carth sat back and sighed in slight relief*
"I'd rather not go into specifics about the first hundred and seventy five years of my life, but after the siege of Barad Dur... Well, let's say that I wasn't widely liked. I moved around middle earth dodging pretty much everyone for a couple of hundred years."
I came here to get away from it all, but after so many years... I need to get back out there again. Hopefully whatever bad blood there was between me and the other elves and men has been forgotten...
*Carth sat back slightly, and glanced at Eruanne.*
"Umm... would you mind if I spent the night here? Indoors I mean. I need only a chair or the like, but I warn you, it's been said I talk in my sleep... answer questions even."
*Carth laughed nervously*
"Untrue I'm sure..."

*Eruanne stacked up the dirty dishes and carried them into the kitchen.*
"You must have done something awful to have been disliked so violently. I cannot promise whether others have forgotten what you did. Forgiven perhaps, but not forgotten."
*She looked at his nervous face and smiled impishly*
"Well, then you shall provide me with all answers tonight!"
*She laughed delightledly at his scared face.*
"Nay!Fear not! I shall not question you. You may sleep here, on the couch. It is quite comfortable."
*Eruanne brought out some sheets and blankets for Carth. Going into her room, she hesistated at the door.*
"Goodnight...Carth."

((OOC, I hate finals... I'll be free by saturday though! ))

"Goodnight... Eruanne"
*Carth lay for an hour, half concious on top of the blankets, and finally drifted off to sleep quietly. He slept soundly for about 6 hours, and awoke before the sun rose.*
"Breakfast will wait I think." he said quietly
*Carth quietly put on his cloak, opened the door, and sat a few feet from the door in the darkness in the heavily falling snow. He needed some time to meditate before the day began, he thought to himself. Even with the wind, it would be ok. Hopefully Euranne didn't wake up and find him missing...*

Re: The Frozen North
*The sun rose, its pale rays shining on the white snow and ice. The dark skies slowly grew lighter, the deep velvet blue turning into softer hues of blue and purple.
Eruanne awoke the minute the first sun-ray hit her face. Yawning and stretching, she lay in bed for a few moments, savouring the warmth of her blankets. The events of yesterday slowly began to come back to her. Carth's face floated before her, his ice-blue eyes looking into her deep ones.
Shaking herself, she got out of bed and dressed warmly. Today was chilly. Going to the kitchen, she put on some porridge on the fire and made some tea.
Eruanne went into the room where Carth had been sleeping. The room was empty. His heavy cloak was gone too, but his bag and daggers remained.
Coming to the conclusion that he must have gone for a walk, Eruanne went to lay the table. Her guest would return soon enough....*
