To be Immortal
YAY! My story is here! It starts out really cheezy I know, but it gets really good! I promise! *Puts hand over heart* And please don't flame me because I know this would never ever happen! I just like the plot line. :)

Disclaimer: I own nothing Tolkien, but I did use his characters.

Chapter 1

There was knock at the door. A young girl about 18 answered it. She was as beautiful as an elf with her deep brown eyes and wavy golden brown hair. When she opened it, she was shocked to find 2 elves standing there. What would elves want with peasants? she thought to herself.
"Yes?"
"We need to speak with your mother," replied one of the elves.
"Yes Sirs. Please, come in."
Her mother came in from the kitchen. Her long brown hair was pulled back into a bun. Her blue apron was dusted with flour. "Ah, Mehier, Nemin. Please sit down."
She turned to her daughter. "Alayvia, please go outside and give food and water to the animals."
"Yes, mother." She turned to the elves and curtsied before she left.
"So, have you decided yet, Michelle?"
"Yes I have, Mehier. She must go. She is not safe here any longer. And you need her. It is best. My husband would have wanted it this way."
"We are sorry about him. He was a noble man"
"Yes, he was. But I do believe that it is time."
"Yes ma'am." Mehier and Nemin rose from their seats. Alayvia was just finishing up her chores outside. The two elves gently grabbed her by the arms. She began to kick and scream. Too many painful memories came flooding back.
"Mother! Help!" the two elves let her go to her crying mother. They did the best to comfort each other.
"Please, Alayvia, go with them. I will see you again soon." Michelle hated lying to her daughter like this. She didn't know if she'd ever see her again. But she had to go.
"Yes mother." Alayvia didn't understand why her mother was so upset. Perhaps she was thinking of father. The elves gave her a sip of a liquid. They said it would make her feel better. She took it and fell fast asleep in the elves arms. Alayvia lived on the edge of Mirkwood. It would not take them long to return to palace of The King.

Re: To be Immortal
Should probably have said this already, but this is going to be a self-angst fanfic with a little bit of romance.

Thanks you guys! Elfie should have that to you to beta read by tomorrow.

BTW, this is the really cheezy part that would never ever happen. But like I said before, I just like the plot line.

Anyway, your here to read the story, not my ramblings.

Chapter 2

Alayvia was soon at Mirkwood. After a few hours she awoke with a sigh. She felt stiff and groggy even though she was in what was probably the most comfortable bed she had ever been on.
"Ah, you have awoken." An older female elf was standing by her bed with blond curly hair that was braided back. A few loose pieces of hair fell out around her face. "I am Luninella."
"Where am I? Why am I here?"
"I can't tell you. You will have to ask Mehier and Nemin. Right now, you should eat a little." She placed a tray of food on her nightstand. "Is there anything else you need?"
"No, thank you."
"Alright. I'll be back in shortly." She turned to leave.
"Wait. Will you bring back Mehier and Nemin?"
"Of course." She left.
Alayvia looked at her food. There was a fruit salad with a wide variety of fruits in it. A couple rolls and a few pieces of cheese were also offered. It was quite a filling meal and she couldn't quite finish.
Luninella walked back in just as she was finishing. "We must dress you then you can see Mehier and Nemin."
Alayvia put on a light blue dress that complimented her brown eyes and golden brown hair, which she brushed and left down. It was wavy and looked wonderful. She was taken down the hall and into a study. She quickly recognized Mehier and Nemin standing there. But there was also another gentleman.
Luninella smiled and curtsied. "King Thranduil, I bring you Alayvia, daughter of Michelle."
"Thank you. Alayvia, please take a seat." Alayvia took this offer quickly.
The King continued to speak. "So you wish to know why you have come to Mirkwood?"
She nodded. Her first question he had already answered.
"You are here to become Queen of Mirkwood."
Alayvia was shocked. "I beg your pardon? I am only a human!"
"Yes and more fit to be queen than all the elves of Mirkwood. The Valar has even agreed to grant you immortality if you do well in learning all the elvish ways."
"Yes. Your training begins tomorrow," stated Mehier.
"And how, may I ask, do you plan on making me queen?"
"You will marry Prince Legolas."
"Yes you will be a wonderful wife for my son."
"When will I meet him?"
"You shall see him within the next few days. He leaves for Rivendell soon."
"And what does he say about all of this? "
"He does not yet know."

Re: To be Immortal
I'm glad you like my story Saruman! There is a flashback in this chapter which I set out with ~ so you know were it is.

Chapter 3

Alayvia was sent to back to her room. She was still in utter shock. Me! Queen! A human peasant to be Queen of the elves! She opened the door to find someone standing in her room- Luninella.
"So what do you think of the news?"
"I don't understand"
"But look at yourself. Your skin is so fair and flawless. You walk like an elf. And your voice is as sweet and musical as any other elf I know. All you need is the point ears! I bet people already mistake you as an elf, do they not?"
It was true. She had many times. And her living on the edge of Mirkwood didn't help things. "Yes, Many times"
"I thought so. I have drawn a bath. After I will bring you supper. Then you need to sleep. You have a big day tomorrow."
Alayvia bathed and ate. The food here was so wonderful. Alayvia could hardly sleep. She was still in shock.
The next morning, Luninella woke up Alayvia. She gave her a pair of leggings and a tunic. The tunic came down three inches past her hips and slit right back up to allow movement. Mehier came in shortly after. Alayvia had just about finished her breakfast.
Mehier led her outside where they met Nemin. He was standing by an archery target. Nemin handed her a bow. Alayvia laughed to herself.
Nemin grabbed a bow himself and loaded it with an arrow. "Now watch carefully." He stood and shot the arrow. It hit the target dead center.
"Now," he said leading her in front of the target. " Stand like this." He put her in position. "Good" Her handed her an arrow. "Shoot. If you don't make the target, don't worry."
Alayvia stood in the correct position and looked over her shoulder. Mehier gave her a nod. She let the arrow loose and it hit the target and split Nemin's arrow.
"Trust me. I've mastered archery."
"I do not doubt that. Have you mastered swords also?" Mehier said with a laugh.
Alayvia was quick to master archery. When she was out, she always wore a knife. It was small and easy to handle and she could use it almost as well as she could shoot. Sword skills didn't come to her as easily...
"No, I was learning and then?then...he..." Alayvia broke down and started to cry. The two elves rushed to comfort her. They knew it was painful for her. Everything had happened all at once.
~Alayvia was wondering in the woods for a short walk. Then a man came out of the bushes and grabbed her. Before she was gagged, she managed to yell for her father who was with her. Neither of them had brought any protection. Her father managed to kill the man, but he still slashed him with his knife. He died later from blood loss.~
Alayvia blamed herself for everything. If she had been carrying the knife like she did every day, this never might have happened.
Nemin had to carry her back to her room. He sat her on the edge of her bed. Luninella dismissed him and took care of her from there. She gave her some tea and she relaxed.
"Are you feeling up for tonight?"
"Why what's tonight?"
Luninella lead her to a table in her room. On it was a bowl of soup. "A royal council and dinner. You are to wait on the elves. That way, as a future queen, you learn how royal councils work and also customs and such. Besides, it's the only way without everybody knowing. If something happens and the Valar change their minds, well?"
"Yes, I understand. I can do it." Alayvia finished eating and put on a light pink dress. On her head, Luninella placed a hairpiece that covered her ears. She was told never to wait on the Prince. He was not supposed to see her.
Luninella introduced Alayvia to her daughter, Nuinethia. Apparently Luninella was married to Mehier and their son was Nemin. Their family were the head advisors and servants of the King. Those five were the only that knew Alayvia was human.
Nuinethia was to help Alayvia in the council and dinner. She pointed the Prince out to her.
"That's him?" Nuinethia nodded. "He's cute!" The two left giggling. They were becoming good friends.

Re: To be Immortal
Sorry for the wait...but here it is! It's Legolas's whole journey rolled into one chapter.

Chapter 4

A few days later Legolas left for Rivendell. Alayvia was starting to get used to Mirkwood. Mehier was now often with the King. None the less, Alayvia's training continued.
About a month later, Mehier was once again helping the King. Word came that Legolas had joined the Fellowship of the Ring. Thranduil was very scared but also very proud.
Nemin was taking care of her sword training that day. There was just one move she didn't get. Nemin went over to her and placed his body against hers in the correct stance. It helped Alayvia with the move, but she felt rather uncomfortable as she thought Nemin liked it a little too much..
A few weeks later, Mehier and his family were teaching Alayvia to dance. Mehier took his wife and they started out across the dance floor. Luninella had a beaming smile on her face. Nuinethia and her brother stood together as if they were dancing and showed her how to move and were to put her feet with out actually moving. Then it was Alayvia's turn. She placed her hands on his shoulder and he put his on her waist. Then they started to dance. Nuinethia shouted reminders at her. Alayvia enjoyed dancing. She learned it quickly too. But once again, the space that had started out between Alayvia and Nemin had been closed.
The next day was Alayvia's nineteenth birthday. She celebrated with Mehier and his family and with the king. Mehier told her she could have a few days off from training. This was good news. She could sit in the gardens all day. It was her favorite place I Mirkwood and until now, she only got a few spare moments there. Then it was Thranduil's turn. He had sent for her mother and sister to eat with them that night. It was a wonderful day that ended all to soon.
The next day Alayvia had to say good bye to her family. She had missed them so much. Before she knew it, Alayvia was training again. But Alayvia enjoyed learning and enjoyed her training so she was not upset.
A few months later, it was spring. Alayvia loved spring. Everything was so beautiful. All the flowers in bloom made the air smell great. One day, Alayvia was sitting on a bench in the garden and Luninella tapped her on the shoulder and unintentionally startled her. "Come with me."
The two walked to Alayvia's room. On her bed was a very exquisite dress. First though, she had to take a bath. It was a very quick one, Luninella kept telling her to hurry. When she got out, Luninella towel dried and scrunched her hair to emphasize the curl. As she helped her put on the dress, Luninella explained.
"Legolas has arrived back from his quest. Tonight there is a celebration dinner. This will be the first night where you can see the Prince with out the fear of him seeing you. You can talk with him and dance if he asks. Tonight all your training pays off." Alayvia didn't know what to say.
The dress Alayvia had put on was a deep royal blue with silver thread woven in the edges. The top was middle plunge and the bottom came out slightly helping magnify her figure. The sleeves came down to just below her elbows and then shear fabric in the same color came down to her wrists and grew wider as they went along. Alayvia left her hir down but once again, a simple hair piece covered her ears.
She went to the feast and sat next to Nuinethia. Nuinethia sat next to her brother, who happened to be good friends with Legolas. As dinner was served, Alayvia made light conversation with those around her, all the time knowing she was under Nemin's glare and even sometimes the watchful eye of Legolas.
Once every was finished eating, music began to play. Nemin was not to ask Alayvia to dance. She was not here to court him but Legolas. Alayvia stood up and Nuinethia grabbed her wrist and brought her in front of Legolas. "Forgive me your highness, I have not yet introduced you. This is Alayvia. Alayvia, this is Prince Legolas." With that Nuinethia left and it was just Alayvia and Legolas. Alayvia was mad at her for leaving her by herself with him but also very grateful.
Legolas turned to Alayvia. "Would you like to get to know each other as we dance?" Alayvia took his hand and they began to dance.

Chapter 5

Legolas was walking Alayvia back to her room. They were laughing the whole way. The soon reached the door. "Sounds like you had a good time on the quest."
"Yes I did." Alayvia went to open the door. "But tell me before you leave. You name is so beautiful but it does not seem elvish. How did you get it?"
"Oh. One of my mother's best friend's was a human named Alayvia. She respected her a lot. She passed shortly before having me and decided to name me after her in her memory."
"Ah. That is a good reason."
"Yes, it is. But I am afraid I must get to bed now."
"Of course. So, I'll still see you tomorrow at the archery targets after breakfast?"
"Yes. I would never miss a chance to beat the Prince of Mirkwood at archery."
He opened her door for her. We shall see. We shall see."
Alayvia stepped inside her door. "Thank you for being so kind to me your highness."
"Just Legolas." He took a step toward her.
"Alright. I think I can do that." Ever so slowly, at least it seemed to them, the space between them closed. When there was only a thin sheet of air between their lips, Alayvia snapped back. "Good night." She stepped inside her room and quickly shut the door.
"That was odd," he said, thinking out loud. He wasn't quite sure what to think of that move. He continued to think about it back up to his room.
"Stupid, stupid. Why did you do that? Now he probably thinks of you differently. Good going."
"Well, there is always tomorrow." said a voice. Luninella was standing there.
"Your not mad?"
"No. But you have to get permission about this archery thing. I'll ask him for you. Go to sleep."
She helped her out of her dress and helped her into bed. "I will be waking you up early tomorrow. Get a good sleep. You must not be tired, for elves only need a few hours of sleep to feel rested." With that she blew out the candle.

A next morning Luninella woke Alayvia up with the sun. "Good morning. I talked to the king."
"Yes, how did that go?"
"Well, at first he was a little surprised. But I think he was happy. He agreed to let you see Legolas at the targets and have breakfast with them. But you must hurry."
Alayvia quickly dressed into her leggings and short tunic she normally wore. Then she pulled on her boot and pinned up her hair. With that she walked to a smaller, family dinning room. She bowed at the Prince and the King. With that Luninella left.
"Welcome Alayvia. I do believe you already know my son."
"Yes, my King."
"Thranduil, please. Take a seat."
"Alright." Breakfast was served
"So have you enjoyed your stay in Mirkwood Alayvia?"
"Yes, I have Thranduil. I would like to thank you again for your hospitality."
"Tis my pleasure. If you'll excuse me, I need to take my breakfast with me into my study. I have some work to do." With that he left.
Alayvia rolled her eyes. She knew this had been planned. Niether of them had touched their food. Legolas grabbed the apple on his plate and the banana on Alayvia's.
"Here." Alayvia somehow managed to catch her piece of fruit as Legolas tossed it to her. "What do you say we start to walk out to the archery targets now?"
"Alright. The sooner to beat you my dear."
They began to walk off towards the targets. About half way, they were done eating. You could walk there in about 5 minutes but they decided to go the long way, through the gardens. For both of them, it was their favorite place to be. It was worth the few extra minutes of walking.
They finished eating at a bench. "Summer just around the corner Alayvia. That means the Summer festival is coming up."
"Yes." Alayvia had no idea what he was talking about but talked like she did. "Do you enjoy it?"
"Sometimes I suppose." They both stood up. "Let's go see who's the better at archery shall we?" They were about to head off, but Legolas paused.
"Shh. What was that?"
"What was what?"
"That noise. From the bushes behind us."
Alayvia paused. Neither had weapons with them. A noise from the bushes. She couldn't breathe. Just like a year ago?.

Re: To be Immortal
It's kind of a short chapter, I'm sorry.

Chapter 6

After a few moments, Legolas shook his head. "Nothing more than loud animal I'm sure."
Alayvia let out a breath she didn't know that she was holding. Legolas doubted his own words but decided not to worry Alayvia. There was someone there.
He sat there, cursing himself for being loud. Alayvia would be his. Legolas had every he had ever wanted. Now it was his turn.
The pair finally reached the archery targets. "So," he said handing her a bow and a quiver. "You go first."
Alayvia took a shot. Her arrow hit the target in front of her dead center.
"Very good." Legolas took aim. He released his arrow that apeared to miss. But with closer inspection, there was a target twice as far away as the one Alayvia hit.
"No fair! I did not see that one!"
"So try again." This time Alayvia took aim. Then lowered her bow. She picked a flower of a nearby tree. She threw it in the air and released her arrow. The arrow landed in the middle of Legolas' with the flower around it's tip. "Well, I must sharpen my skills."
"Perhaps." Alayvia smiled. The two continued to shoot arrows. Both were excellent shots. But right in the middle of their fun, Nemin came trotting up.
"Thranduil wishes to speak with you Legolas."
"Yes, alright. I guess it's a draw then Alayvia?"
"I suppose. But you need to see your father. I will clean up here."
"Thanks." With that Legolas headed off towards his fathers study.
Nemin helped Alayvia clean up the arrows. When they finished, Nemin walked her back to her room. " I hope to see you soon Alayvia."
"Well, not meaning to be rude," actually she was, "but I need to clean up."
"Of course." Before she knew what was happening, Nemin had bent over and placed his lips on hers.
It took her a minute to realize what had happened. When she did, she pulled away. "What do you think you are doing?" Before he could answer, she had run into her room and locked the door.

Legolas stepped into his father study. "You wished to see me?"
"Yes. The summer festival is in a few days. I feel I should tell you now."
"Tell me what?" He didn't like the sound of his fathers voice.
"That I am to announce your engagement."
"What?!?! But I'm not engaged!"
"Yes you are. It's a prearranged marriage. "
"You can't! I ?You.. AH!" He stormed out of his father's study and went to his room. He ran in and locked the door. He just couldn't believe what he heard. What about Alayvia? He had to tell her. But how? He couldn't face her. He sat down at his desk and took out a piece of paper and an ink well.

Luninella knocked on Alayvia's door. "You have a letter."
"Alright." Alayvia went to her door and unlocked it and Luninella in.
"Here. I'll let you read it in private."
Alayvia followed her out and shut and locked the door behind her. It was a letter form Legolas.

Dear Alayvia,
I wish I could tell you to your face but I can't. I'm afraid I would die of a broken heart. I love you, Alayvia. My father on the other hand doesn't seem to care. He is making me marry another. There was a prearranged marriage and he will announce it at the summer festival. Never forget how much I care for you Alayvia.
Legolas

Ellie: Why do you not like miscommunication in fantasy? You just don't like the way it lays out or just feel frustrated because the charactors don't know?

Yes, more mushy stuff, but that just adds to the angst part. *evil grin*

Chapter 7

A quiet tear rolled down Alayvia's cheek. She quickly wiped it away. She got up and ran to Thranduil's study. Without knocking, she opened the door.
"Tell me my King. I have to know." The look on her face was unmistakable. He knew why she was there.
"Sit. Word came that the Valar has granted your immortality."
"So why did you not tell Legolas?"
"He ran out before I could tell him."
"When will you tell him?"
" I do not know. Not at the festival anyway. He should know before the whole kingdom."
"Can I tell him?"
"No. That would cause too many problems."
"Then why don't I just marry him at the festival? Just walk up the aisle and he can figure it out when he lefts the veil!" Her words were dripping with sarcasm. She was angry at the King. Surly someone could tell Legolas.
"You know, we could do that. Instead of waiting."
"I didn't mean it!!"
"But it's a good idea! Instead of announcing his engagement, then having him getting married later."
"But, wait, I oh..."
Thranduil stepped outside his study. "Have the dressmaker and Luninella brought to me right away. Tell the dressmaker to bring a book of wedding dresses and a few examples with her in Alayvia's size. They have her size recorded at her shop." The guard that was standing in the hall left.
In a few moments, Luninella arrived. "What do you need, Sir?"
"Alayvia needs a dress for a wedding. The dressmaker is coming."
"I shall take her to her room then."
"Alright." Luninella swept Alayvia off to her room.
"So, you have been granted you immortality?"
"Yes. He plans to wed us at the summer festival."
"Oh my! That's in 3 days!"
"That soon?"
"Yes."
About then there was a knock at the door. The dressmaker. Her arms were full of gowns and she even brought by an assistant to help her carry everything. They quickly went to work.
It was past dinner time when they finally decided on a dress. Even then they had to make some alterations. It was of medium cut with sleeves that sat past the shoulders and left the shoulder area bare. The dress was solid white satin with almost velvety white flowers on them that were able to be seen because the light reflected off of them different than the dress itself.
It was decided that into her hair would be woven white flowers and a silver crown would be placed atop it. A choker of silver and diamonds with strands also of silver diamonds hanging down from it. It was a very beautiful combination.
Alayvia was so tired after the whole ordeal, she ate dinner in her room and promptly went to sleep.

The next morning Alayvia woke. She ate a little breakfast. Luninella informed her that her training was complete. All that was left was for Alayvia to pick the wedding spot and a ring. She said the gardens and she quickly picked out a ring. It was perfect. It was alternating gold and silver with gold and silver leaves etched on it. It reminded Alayvia so much of Legolas.
After lunch, Alayvia went to the gardens for a walk. She walked up on the bench she and Legolas sat at the day before. Legolas was sitting on it. She sat down next to him. To her surprise her sat there, but never looked at her. She took one of his hands and put it between hers and looked straight ahead also. "I love you too."

Yes, very fast-paced I know, but I felt no need to drag it out longer than need be just for length. As far ar Chapter 8 is concerned, Personal Message me. Why? This site is PG maybe PG-13. Chapter 8 is not.

Re: To be Immortal
I think you can post it here Rb..otherwise the continuity will be lost. I'll warn everyone that this board may not always be PG-13.

Thank you my wonderful beta-reader!

Chapter 8

Legolas simply nodded and then got up and left. Alayvia buried her head in her heads. She let loose the tears that she wasn't supposed to be crying.
"You shouldn't be crying, Alayvia." She turned around. Nemin. He out his arm around her and cradled her head.
"Take a walk with me."
Alayvia didn't refuse the comfort. They walked about one mile into the woods. By then she had stopped crying. She looked up. In front of her was a little gap in the trees. There was a log on one side that they both sat on.
"I like to come here to think when I'm upset."
"Legolas deserves to be told what is going on."
" I beg to differ. I don't think you are right for each other and both of you will be unhappy in the end."
"No, we really do love each other."
Nemin's voice turned angry. "No! He does not love you! He can not! A prince marrying a peasant! It's unheard of!"
Alayvia would not hear of that. She smacked him across the face.
His voice went down to one of regret. "I am sorry. It's just?I love you Alayvia."
She stood up in her disbelief. "No! You do not! You can not!"
"Oh really?" Nemin had an evil grin on his face. He stood up and stood behind Alayvia and placed one of his hands on her mouth and a his other held her wrist. "I can make you love me."
Alayvia wanted to scream but she couldn't. His grip on her was too tight. He moved his hand behind her head and forced his lips to her. If she struggled he pressed harder. He tied her wrist together behind her back. Alayvia was so afraid.
He fell to the ground taking her with him. It suddenly became clear to her. He wanted more than a passionate kiss. She felt so ignorant. She should never had gone with him into the woods. Her sadness had blinded her.
He kept her mouth busy with his so she couldn't scream. With his hands began to untie the laces on her dress.
If I can't make her love me, I can make her no longer a maiden and maybe then she would be able to marry Legolas, Nemin thought.
An incredible feeling of fear over took Alayvia as Nemin took one of his hands and slid it up her dress and covered her mouth. Then he pulled the dress over her head. He then took off her undergarments and then his leggings.
He began to kiss her again, this time more greedily and violent than before. Alayvia bit his tongue and in return he pushed her harder against the ground. Once again placing a head over her mouth he began aggressive bites downward on her neck and chest.
All of a sudden he froze. Alayvia heard it too. Guards. Thank the Valar for the guards patrolling the woods. "Tell this to anyone and I will kill you and the one you told."
With that he pulled back on his clothes and Alayvia gathered up hers and ran. A good while away, Alayvia put all of her clothes back on and continued running. What was she to do? She didn't want to find out if Nemin was serious but at this point, she felt as if she'd rather die.
She ran the back way into her room so no one would see her. She drew herself a bath and sat there, crying.
