Re: To be Immortal
Yes, very nice.
I shut my eyes and turned them on my heart. As a man calls for wine before he fights, I asked one draught of earlier, happier sights, Ere fitly I could hope to play my part. Think first, fight afterwards--the soldier's art: One taste of the old time sets all to rights.
Alayvia walked into the room and a hush fell over it and all work stopped. Alayvia sat down and started on her project. After a few minutes of uncomfortable silence, she spoke up. "Well, perhaps if you can't say it in front of me, you should not be talking about it all."
A few hushed whispers went around the room. A young elf woman spoke up. "Do you know what we say?"
"No, because I keep my ears to myself. Perhaps you should try it." This caused more whispers to be sent around the room along with a few looks which eventually grew into conversation. Alayvia heard her name being spoken a few times and felt prying eyes on her.
She noticed a woman next to her who seemed to be as uneasy here as she was so she spoke to her. Her name was Malelie. They had a polite conversation about their own lives at first. She had been coming here for about a week as she had not anything better to do but she did want to be alone all day in her room. This was the only option, but soon she said she would get married.
        "Perhaps we both should leave?"
"Yes, that would be nice." The two walked out and sat at a table that was in the gardens.
"May I ask of you what they women have been saying about me?"
She heard rumors about why Legolas had married her so suddenly. There was a few versions of that she had met him in Lothlorien while he was on his quest and they fell in love. Another version of the same story was that he had gotten her pregnant and waited for the baby to be born before he came home and married her then. Another still was that he had gotten her pregnant before he left for the Fellowship and married her on his return.
Just what was it with this people and her being pregnant? She could not believe what was being said around her, in the same palace, thinking it went unnoticed. The thought sickened her.
"I do not know were they even got such ideas."
"Nor do I. They have too much time on their hands and too much wind in their mouths."
"Yes," she laughed, "That could be it." The two continued to talk until the sun began to set. "I must now bid my leave of you, Malelie. Perhaps we should sit out here again."
"Yes, I would like that." The two went off their own ways. Alayvia returned to her room to find Nuinethia setting down her food. Alayvia asked Nuinethia it sit down with her and eat. At first, she said no, but Alayvia convinced her otherwise.
"You are a friend, and friends enjoy each others company."
"Alright, alright!" The pair quietly laughed and sat down to eat.
"So, do you know of what they say of you?" Alayvia went into the story of the day including Malelie and what she told her. "That is the most depraved thing I have ever heard!"
"Ugh, the thought makes me sick, it really does."
        "I can imagine why."
"No, you don't understand." Alayvia got up and ran to her the bathroom. The rumors were not all lie after all.
Chapter 19
It was five weeks after Legolas had left. It was the day of his return. Alayvia had waited for today in joy and in dread. She waited for him on a bench near the palace gates. It was high noon when she saw him. She stood up and watched his horse gallop through the gates. He stopped his horse next to her a jumped down. They circled each other until Alayvia's back was to his horse. He put his arm around her waist and pulled her to him. Without a word being said he kissed her amorously.
Alayvia broke away and looked into his eyes. She could get lost in his eyes. They were clear pools of azure that never seemed to end. "Nae saian luume'. Cormamin lindua ele lle. <It has been to long. My heart sing to see thee.>" Legolas could only look back at her. He was at a loss for words. So, he kissed her again instead.
The two went to put away Legolas' horse and along the way, he told her of his travels. Sam and Rosie were expecting their first child. Legolas talked a lot about the life style of the hobbits, their many meals and pipe weed. Alayvia could listen to him talk for hours. His voice enraptured her and she loved it.
The two reached their room and Legolas set his stuff at the door and plopped down on the bed, bring her with him. He began to draw her closer to him and he kissed her lightly on her lips. He traveled down, leaving a trail of kissed down to her neck while his hands trying to unlace the back of her dress.
Alayvia pulled away quickly, startling Legolas. "There is something I must tell you." Her words hung thick in the air and the tension was evident on Legolas' face.
        "What is it melamin?"
Alayvia stood up and turned her back to him. She played with the front of her dress, shaking with nerves. Legolas came up behind her, and put his arm around her, standing to her side. "You can tell me anything."
Alayvia looked back into those eyes she loved so much. Honesty in what he said was there, but also fear. "Legolas, " the word seemed to clumsily fall from her mouth, "I…us…we're…going to have a baby."
The fear in Legolas' eyes melted away leaving only happiness. A grin spread over his face and he scooped her up into his arms and spun her around a few times out of sheer joy. "Why did you fear telling me this melamin?'
"Try it. It's not to easy!"
Legolas only laughed. "I don't think I will be having any children anytime soon."
"Ah, but someone must tell your father." Legolas froze and placed Alayvia down.         She could only laugh. "See."
"You stay here and change. I will tell my father, and then we shall celebrate!"
Legolas had done what he had set out to do. Nemin had suggested that Legolas take her to the little cove in the forest they had found when they were just boys. Legolas said yes and all the food was taken out there.
Nuinethia had helped Alayvia change and had also given a silvery shirt and gray pants to Legolas to put on. He changed in an extra room and went to pick up his wife. She looked wonderful. The dress was made of a lavender colored fabric that was almost sheer. It had long bell shaped sleeves and the rest made almost a straight line down her body to her ankles, clinging to her hips.
Legolas smiled and took Alayvia's hand and led her to the cove. He covered her eyes just before reaching it and lead her to one side. He took back his hands and Alayvia's smile faded. She ran. That was all she could do. She couldn't be there.
Legolas caught up with her. "Mankoi lle uma tanya? Mani marte? <Why did you do that? What happened?>"
Alayvia didn't know what to say. Tears formed in her eyes as all the memories came rushing back. What was she supposed to say? "Legolas, I…he…" The tears flowed freely. She knew he would find out anyway. So she told him. She told him everything.
Whups! Leggy knows! This will be fun...

Re: To be Immortal
Oh yes, very slow and painful! I can't wait!
I shut my eyes and turned them on my heart. As a man calls for wine before he fights, I asked one draught of earlier, happier sights, Ere fitly I could hope to play my part. Think first, fight afterwards--the soldier's art: One taste of the old time sets all to rights.
Re: To be Immortal
Ok, I really didn't want them to have any children at all, but part of the story relies on it.
I posted two more chapters. Aren't I nice?
Chapter 20
Legolas began to run back to the palace. "Legolas!" He stopped when he heard Alayvia scream. He turned around and she ran up to him, grabbing his shoulders. "What are you doing?"
"Look at what he did to you! What do you think that I am doing?"
"Please don't. Not now." Her voice was broken up from the sobs.
"Why not now? I'll kill him sometime anyway."
"No one would like that more than me. He threatened to kill us both."
        "I would not allow that."
"The baby, Legolas. I would not chance it." Her eyes were once again filling with tears, they were pleading with him.
        "As you wish. "
"AH!!!!!!! Tanya awra!<That hurt!>" It was the beginning of Spring, and Legolas sat next to Alayvia, holding her hand. He was excited, scared, nervous, all at once. He was going to be a father.
Alayvia on the other hand, was in agonizing pain. "I don't want to have anymore babies! Argg!" She squeezed Legolas' hand as the contraction took place.
"Don't break my hand!" Legolas replied with a laugh. Luninella was there helping the nurse and so was Nuinethia. She handed a cloth to Legolas to wipe down Alayvia's head
"Would you like to trade places?"
The nurse looked at Alayvia and smiled. "Push next time, Alayvia. Ready, push." After a few seconds of Alayvia straining, there was crying. The nurse handed the baby over to her. "It's a girl."
Alayvia held her daughter and smiled. "Cirithwen" said Legolas. Alayvia looked at him in confusion. "Alayvia in elvish is Ascacirithwen. But I like the shorter version better."
Alayvia glanced down at Cirithwen before giving her to Legolas to hold. "Me too. Ah! If I'm done having this baby, then why am I still in pain?"
"Because your going to have another one!" the nurse shouted.
"Thank you Legolas!" was her sarcastic reply. Alayvia had never known so much pain.
"Ready one the count of three...one, two, three." Alayvia tried again, but she did not have as much strength in her. Luninella face changed. She rushed Legolas out of the room.
"It's for Cirithwen." Legolas nodded in reassurance as Luninella shut the door.
"One more time Alayvia. You have to use all of your strength." The nurses fearful eyes met Alayvia's confused ones. Alayvia did as she was told but this time, there was no crying, no sound at all.
Thranduil was waiting outside when Legolas came out. "You have a beautiful daughter, son."
"Thank you. And your terrible at keeping secrets. What is it?" Never did Legolas take his eyes off of the newborn in his arms.
"Now that you have an heir, I am going to leave for the Valor."
Legolas looked up. Yes, his father had seen many things. It was time. He deserved rest.
Both of their faces shot to the door when they heard Alayvia scream. But the scream was not in agony. They ran in the room unbidden. Alayvia was holding another baby in her arms and a tear rolled down her cheek. She didn't care who saw. Legolas wiped it away and Thranduil asked the nurse to leave, who, thankfully, didn't notice Alayvia's tears. Thranduil looked at his son and knew immediately what was wrong. The second baby didn't make it.
oh, I'm mean to do that to a little baby ...A song was my inspiration for this chapter. I used it accordingly.
Chapter 21
The next day Alayvia rested, she slept most of the morning, not waking till almost noon. A funeral was held the next day. Legolas set everything up for her. His wife was tired and still grieving, as was he.
The next morning, Alayvia got dressed. Things were different for her that day. She had told Nuinethia to have the morning off for herself and did all the things that she would do. She bathed and dressed Cirithwen, drew he water for her own bath and dressed herself. Legolas still had to tie the ribbons in the back of her dress though.
He really got the saw how sad she was though, when she did not watch the sun rise. It was something she did every morning. When the first light crept over the trees, she would wake, and watch in wonder, never tiring of watching it every morning
She never watched the morning rising,
Too busy with the first days chores.
A small funeral was held. Only Legolas, Alayvia, Cirithwen, who was being cradled by her mother, Thranduil, and Mehier's family was there. The service didn't last long at Alayvia's request. She didn't want to linger out her pain. They buried the baby boy, whom the named Lambeion.
When all was said and done, everyone went their separate ways. Alayvia laid Cirithwen down in her crib. Legolas stood behind her and put is arm around her waist. "It will be alright."
"But it was my fault Legolas."
        "How?"
"If I would have tried a little harder, Legolas…"
"No, it would not have mattered." Alayvia laid down of the bed, her sobs seizing her. Legolas laid down in front of her, caressing her cheek until she fell asleep.
At dinner, Alayvia woke when the smell of food hit her nose. The sun was setting, and Alayvia went out on the balcony and watched it set. She shivered with cold. Legolas put his cloak over her and stood next to her.
But oft she would watch the sun's fading
As the cold of night crept across the moors.
"I feel that I have failed."
"You have not. You have done nothing wrong."
"Then why do I feel so bad?"
"Because you lost a child, something you loved more than life before you even saw it. If anyone at all is a failure, it is me. " Alayvia looked at Legolas, is eyes showing pain. "I was supposed to kill the orc before it could light the bombs with the torch it bore. I missed his neck in my haste and hit his shoulder. The second time I hit his neck, but with his dying moment, he leaped. I had failed." Legolas had never told anyone of that. Now he was telling her.
"Someone else would have continued with the flame. It would not have mattered."
Legolas moved around behind his wife. He ran his fingers through her hair which she had chosen to wear down.
"Yes. No matter what either of us would have done, the same thing would have happened." A breeze passed by the two and it blew up Alayvia's hair. Alayvia rolled her head in the direction the wind was heading and looked that way, a tear rolled down her cheek.
And in that moment, she felt the loss
Of everything that had been missed
So used to feeling the spirit sink.
She had not felt her own heart's wish.
The song is called The Missing. It was written in Old English by Philippa Boyens and the translation was done by David Salo. Re: To be Immortal
That's sad.
I shut my eyes and turned them on my heart. As a man calls for wine before he fights, I asked one draught of earlier, happier sights, Ere fitly I could hope to play my part. Think first, fight afterwards--the soldier's art: One taste of the old time sets all to rights.
Cirithwen was 3 months old when Thranduil decided to leave for the Havens. Oddly enough, he crowned his son King on June first, Legolas' and Alayvia's one year anniversary. They both could tell it would take some time to get used to it. It was another life change, but they welcomed it with open arms.
He left the next day, along with a small group of others who chose to leave with him. Among those leaving where Mehier and Luninella.
Legolas was cradling Cirithwen and Alayvia was standing by his side. Thranduil, Mehier, and Luninella came to say their good-byes. The former king stood talking to his son. Legolas had grief in his stare which Thranduil quickly picked up on. "We will see each other again in time."
"Yes, but that does not mean I will not miss you. You are my father. You will miss Cirithwen growing up."
"It will be alright, I promise. I could not stay forever, you know that. One day, Cirithwen will be saying the same things to you, and you to her. Take good care of them." He said looking down at Cirithwen and then over to Alayvia.
Luninella and Mehier stood with Alayvia.         "You have been like a mother to me. I will miss you."
"We are not leaving forever. This is not the end. Namaarie <Farewell>."
"Namaarie, Alayvia." Mehier's voice was rough with emotion.
"Namaarie." She hugged them both and they went to say good-bye to Legolas. Thranduil was next to talk with Alayvia.
"You take care of my son. You are good to him."
"I shall." The two hugged. Thranduil waited to say good bye to the two of them together. Legolas walked over to them as Luninella and Mehier went to say good bye to their children.
"You two take care of Mirkwood." The couple laughed. "Namaarie, Alayvia"
"Namaarie, My King." The two embraced once more
"Namaarie, atar. Aa' I'sul nora lanne'lle <Farewell, father. May the winds fill your sails>." Thranduil could not help but smile. Mirkwood was truly in good hands. A horn blew and the group began to set off.
A little later that afternoon, Alayvia and Legolas were heading back to their room. "Your mother is visiting again? She did not see you enough while you were with child?"
"You know how upset she was that she left right before Cirithwen's birth. See didn't get the message until the day of Lambeion's funeral." The two stepped into the room and Legolas laid Cirithwen down in her crib. Alayvia took both of their cloaks and hung them by the door. "Besides, she is my mother," Alayvia added walking back toward Legolas.
"Yes, well, I will not deny her being here."
"You wouldn't have won the argument anyway."
"Perhaps." Legolas took off his quiver and bow and hung them in their proper place on their rack. He also took off his knives and hung them next to his Lorien bow. Legolas went over to the pitcher of water on the table and washed his face, while Alayvia sat down at the vanity and took of her crown and brushed her hair. It was a beautiful spring day.
Neither saw the figure in the hidden in the midst of the balcony's shadows.
I really am thinking about stopping it here... really.

Just curious... Anyone going to post in Elnador? Sorry about that random post.
Re: To be Immortal
Ah, used random passages from a song again...
This is also my last chapter of this story. I hope you have enjoyed reading it as much as I have writting it.
Chapter 23
The two walked out toward the balcony, and as they opened the door, the figure jumped out at them, and landed in a crouching position. Legolas reached for his knives but they weren't there. As the figure stood up, he began to speak. "So, you told him everything didn't you, Alayvia?"
"Nemin, don't do anything you would regret."
"Ah, so you told him. But why did I even ask? I stood there and listened to you. Besides, Legolas told me he needed no servant, and has not called upon my council much. Nice touch wasn't Legolas, for me to tell you to go to that cave, where it all happened. You always got what you wanted, both of you! Now it is time for me get what I want!" Nemin loaded his bow and aimed it at Legolas first. "Then, we can some fun before I kill you the same way." He released his bow. But Legolas caught the arrow.
"You were always slow." He broke the arrow in half.
"So you want to do this the hard way? I only brought one arrow, thinking I will kill Alayvia with one of yours. What an irony, being killed with your lover's arrow." He tossed the bow toward Legolas.
Then Alayvia saw it. The same thing that she had seen in his eyes on her wedding day. Only now, she knew what it was. "You…it was you! This whole time! I thought you were dead!"
"If you mean that I was the one that killed your father, then yes, it was me."
        "How? He killed you!"
Take back the lies, the hurt, the blame…
"Nay, he only knocked me unconscious. You thought I was dead. Do you remember? I do…[Flashback] You ran ahead of your father in the woods. I came up and grabbed him from behind. You turned around, only to see me stab your father in the heart. Yes, there is no feeling like that of a heartbeat traveling up through a knife. He fell as I pulled the knife from him and you caught my gaze. Your father yelled at you to run, but you didn't. He hit my face hard. I dropped my knife in a bush and he hit me again before I fell unconscious. Then he shoved my body over the small cliff. It was only maybe a story high, so I survived. You were in such shock, all you remembered my stare. [End of Flashback]"
Legolas had taken this time to gather up his weapons. First his knives, then he grabbed an arrow and his bow. He loaded it and aimed. Nemin grabbed Alayvia and held her in front of him. "You wouldn't want to miss and hit you wife would you?"
        "I won't miss."
        "Remember the orc Legolas,"
"I never told you that." He lowered his bow.
        "But I heard."
Legolas dropped the bow and his single arrow. "Perhaps you are right."
"Of course I am." At that Legolas leaped on Nemin and Alayvia scrambled away. The only thing she could do was catch her breathe. He tried to choke her.
The fighting on the ground continued. Legolas was thrown on his back, he now being unable to reach his knives. Legolas reached behind him hoping to grab the arrow so he could stab him with it but he had grabbed the bow. Nemin broke the string rendering the bow useless. Legolas forced Nemin over onto his back, but Nemin kicked with such force that he landed on his stomach, unconscious, on his broken bow and his own arrow which had almost pieced his stomach.
Nemin grabbed one of Legolas knives and pinned Alayvia against the wall. "You will die just how you father did." She scream for Legolas, but it was no use. He stabbed her, in her heart. He pulled out the knife, and turned around just to hear an arrow being released from his own bow. Legolas shot him in the forehead and it came out the other side which stuck in the wall, leaving him suspended there.
Legolas moved his wife out from underneath Nemin's dead body. "Please, melamin, if not for me, than for Cirithwen!"
        Now we say goodbye…
"I am sorry, Legolas." A tear rolled down her cheek. "Amin mela lle. <I love you.>"
These tears you cry, have come too late…
"No, you'll be alright. Let me get the nurse."
"Legolas, Amin hiraetha. Amin mela lle. <I'm sorry. I love you.>" She continues to cry.
And you will weep, when you face the end alone…
Legolas knew it that moment there was nothing he could do. "Amin mela lle, mela en' coiamin.< I love you, love of my life>" An incredible peace over came the room as clouds moved over the sun and darkened the day, as Alayvia took her last breath.
Where once was light, now darkness falls…
Gollum's song was written by Fran Walsh, Janet Roddick, David Donaldson, Steve Roche, and David Long. Music written, orchestrated, and condusted by Howard Shore. Lyrics sung by Emilliana Torrini. Taken from The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers Soundtrack. Copyright 2002 New Line Tunes (ASCAP). All rights reserved.
Yes, I had to end it this way. I knew she would die before I even wrote the first chapter. Just because I said I could kill off my characters, doesn't mean Nemin couldn't.

I actually feel sorry for Legolas.

Re: To be Immortal
One of my best friends asked me this too. Nemin would do anything and kill anyone to get to her. Her father was in the way. Then came the problem of Legolas. There really were a lot of things that went answered, I know, but I kinda like it that way.
Oh really, you feel sorry for Legs? Me too. I feel bad for Cirithwen too, because like Silver said, will never know her mother.
I'm working on another story. It's really different from this one. It's about Frodo before the Fellowship. Like when he's 21. If I get far enough into it, I might post it here. If you all want me too.

Ok... I've finally copied and pasted my 4th chapter. I'm still writing my 14th chapter. I think that chapter'll be longer than chapter 1.
