Constitution
We should have one, to determine the officers and operation of the Caucus, and to determine what distinguishes us from a rag-tag bunch of independents.

Re: Constitution
I whole-heartedly agree. I have a simple draft to start up the debate...

Quote:
The Independent Caucus of Talamthom

Article 1. - The Caucus Chair
The Caucus Chair shall preside over the Caucus and represent it in dealings with outsiders as necessary. The Chair shall have the power of appointment and removal for all other positions including the Vice Chair, Media Liaison, and any other appointments the Chair deems necessary.

Article 2. - The Vice-Chair
The Vice Chair(s) shall be responsible for any duties assigned them by the Chair and, on basis of seniority, shall become Interim Chair in case of resignation, censure, death or any other catastrophic event. The first order of business shall be election of a new Caucus Chair.

Article 3. - Elections for Caucus Chair
Elections for Caucus Chair shall begin 10 days prior to the vacancy of the position. All official positions of the Caucus shall be subject to recall after a motion to that effect has been made and seconded. The motion is not debatable and by majority vote in favor the position is vacated. All positions vacated by recall, or vacated after a recall motion has been made, shall be immediately filled by election. No motion of recall shall be made within 2 weeks of an election or previous recall vote. Any unannounced absence of more than 7 consecutive days shall be considered a resignation of any position.

Article 4. - Caucus will not establish a general party policy.
At no time may any attempt be made to establish a general party policy (platform) or nominate party candidates; nor may the ICT formally join a Majority or Minority coalition, as members are free to align themselves individually.

Article 5. - Membership
The Independent Caucus of Talamthom forum is open to all citizens of Talamthom, as is the party itself, and no posts may be deleted by anyone.

Article 6. - Amending the Caucus Rules
Any caucus member can motion to amend the rules. The motion is debatable. A supermajority (2/3) of votes cast must be in the affirmative for the motion to pass. 72 hours is the standard nominating, debating, and voting period for the Caucus.

Re: Constitution
As a member of your opponents i am wondering if you'll be submitting Party lists in future elections or whether you'll all stand as individuals?

Re: Constitution
Well, we're not sure - we just began discussing our party rules, so we're not sure as of yet.

Re: Constitution
Well I think the most important thing we have to determine is what is our purpose? Are we an alliance of like-minded individuals, or do we simply serve as an organisation that gives organisational supports to independents, in order to allow them to compete with the "big boys"?

Well, I am not sure we're all like-minded individuals. I'm a moderate conservative... more like the Conservatives of Canada. I know Sturgeon is in the left... how about you, Graius?

Re: Constitution
I would opt for the second option ('to be able to compete with the big boys').

Re: Constitution
In the national interest i would encourage that - although it would be hard to employ without a party line!

Re: Constitution
This is a tricky thing to define. The thing is that I would like to see the ICT putting forth a party list of candidates in elections. I also would like to see the party set down central tenets, a main core of beliefs – while maintaining each member’s ability to remain as an independent candidate.

For example the main core of beliefs could include things like “the right to own property”, but how this belief can be “carried out” would be up to each individual member to decide.

I would not like to see Surgeon be outcasted (since I can see he would be the leftist of the ICT) - but every party has its factions within it. The USA Republicans, despite being controlled by the Christian Conservatives, have moderate and "Republicrat" factions within it as well...

Re: Constitution
Whatever you choose you should do it quick. If you agree to act as a more traditionally organised party then you could become PM - the cost of this would be the loss of greater political freedom within the party.

Re: Constitution
Hmmm, well. I would personally like the ICT to be a party in the traditional sense.

We have a great chance of breaking the DLP hold on the Prime Ministership, and if we want Talamthom to move forward, we should take this chance... Pendergrast has been an inactive Prime Minister, and we have the chance to change that! We can make a difference in Talamthom.

Graius, Sam... what do you think?

Re: Constitution
In which case I propose a rename of our party, and a statement of principles, leading to a seizing of the premiership. I would prefer Edgard to take that role, since I already have duties as head of government in both Attera and Treithar.

Re: Constitution
Thank you guys. :D

Well, I agree with you Graius. I have a suggestion.

I propose we rename our party the Progressive Democratic Party, or the An Páirtí Daonlathach in Irish.

We could use this as our official party logo.

As for the official position of our party, I would like to see that we take a right-wing position on economic matters but liberal positions on social policy.

What do you guys think?

May I suggest we have a party conference to organise the basic principles and constitution of our party? I've already drawn up some plans.
