I wanted to respond to this, but words fail me right now. Maybe later...I am trying to be happy today.

Ships that pass in the night, and speak each other in passing,
Only a signal shown, and a distant voice in the darkness;
So on the ocean of life, we pass and speak one another,
Only a look and a voice, then darkness again and a silence.
* Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Re: Death by Sadness
I'm not sure how credible this is, but its supposed to be part of a letter from Paulo Coehlo to President Bush

Now that there seems no way of silencing the drums of war, I would like to say, as an ancient European king said to an invader: 'May your morning be a beautiful one, may the sun shine on your soldiers' armors, for in the afternoon, I will defeat you.'
Thank you for allowing us - an army of anonymous people filling the streets in an attempt to stop a process that is already underway - to know what it feels like to be powerless and to learn to grapple with that feeling and transform it. So, enjoy your morning and whatever glory it may yet bring you.

Re: Death by Sadness
Damnit Jim guided blisslessly under the beach umbrella and onto her beach chair. His steady hand supported her as she sank into the chair with a sigh.

He sat next to her and they stared blanky at the surf for several minutes without speaking.

After a time he said without turning his head, "Would you like to borrow my rose colored glasses?"

She turned and looked at him with a look of incredulousness, "What the hell are you talking about?"

"No matter when you look at it, the world has many horrible things happening at that very moment." She stared at his ear as he continued, "People are being horrible to one another as we speak. Not only that, just plain statistics are resulting in death...sickness...things that maybe we will realize only once in our lives...in THAT moment WE die ourselves...it can be a horrible world."

"Thanks...thanks one hell of a lot for cheering me up." She turned away and stared at the surf with her lips pursed. She wanted to yell at him, or perhaps throw sand in his face and run...anywhere. But she said nothing as the minutes passed.

He broke the silence. "No matter when you look at it, the world has many wonderful things happening at the very moment." She turned and stared at his ear again for his eyes never left the surf. "People are helping each other as we speak. Beautiful acts of kindness, people embraced in love, children are running and playing...it can be such a beautiful world."

He turned and their eyes locked. They smiled. "See? You HAVE to understand the ugliness to see the beauty. Just don't get stuck in either one...borrow my rose colored glasses every-once-in-a-while." He kissed her hand and they stared at the surf.

I'm speechless. Thanks for the steady hand and the rose tinted view. You're a sweet heart for writing that for me. The hypnotic lulling of the waves at the surf will always remind me of staring into your ears. :\

Re: Death by Sadness
They're targeting the journalists now. Actually bombing their buildings and killing them. How bad do things have to get before someone stops them? I mean, is there anyone who actually can? This is the beginning of the end of American beauty. It is an ugly beast gone mad with pride and greed.

I suggest you have some very solid information before you make accusations such as this. The journalists in that hotel knew that it was in a dangerous location, and chose to stay there.

DeShaz lifted the bag from over her head and peered out at the ocean. The surf continued to slap at the beach. She knew it was there, she could hear it. The sun continued to bake the white sands. She knew it was there, she could feel it. The breeze continued to bring the taste of salt off the water. She knew it was there, she could taste it. Life and death continued their eternal dance at the beach. She knew they were there, she could smell them.

She glanced to her left to see Damnit Jim and Blisslessly discussing the good and the ugly of the world. Rose colored glasses were never enough for her.

She pulled the bag back over her head.

I'm sorry manniac but I suggest the same thing for you. I don't throw accusations around for the fun of it. Maybe if you follow some non-propaganda news for a change you'll start to understand the reality of whats going on. Or maybe you'd rather not.

Re: .
We have got to stop listening to our dogs. I was happily watching "Leave it to Beaver" reruns last night and doing one of those little puzzles where you have to circle words which are cleverly hidden in a matrix of random letters and listening to ABBA's Greatest Hits quietly in the background... and the dog came in...looked at me and told me to give him a steak out of the fridge (he speaks perfect German, with a slight Bavarian accent which is odd for a Basset Hound...they usually have a North German accent). Being a loyal subject (and afraid of a German speaking Basset), I did.

He didn't even thank me...ingrate (but it was OK for while at the fridge I chugged another bottle of wine).

When my other master arrived from work, she asked what happened...a steak was missing. I said that I had no idea what happened to HER steak. It must have run away, I explained. In fact, I heard the door slam on its' way out.

At this point I expected the dog to make some statement in support of my story, but he just sat there next to the fire place. Whenever, she looked away, he stuck his tongue out and grinned at me. Whenever she looked in his direction, he took on that ridiculous Basset expression he does so well.

So I thought I would trap him. He was working me and I did not like it one bit. With my wife standing there, I ran to the fridge, chugged another bottle of wine, grabbed MY steak and gave to the dog. He ate it, and I knew I had won.

See...I explained to my wife. THE DOG eats the steaks. Tell her, Barney. He refused and simply resumed his Basset impersonation...damn good one, too.

For once my wife was speechless. I then knew perhaps I had stumbled on a new strategy. You can bet the butcher will be happy to see me every night, as I buy my two sacrificial steaks to give to that stupid dog. That will show him to screw me over.

Journalist deaths
Al-Jezeera's office was bombed in Iraq, AND in Afghanistan. GPS guided warheads mean that the GPS satellites are working to great precision. Given that media outlets report their office locations to the military using GPS coordinates I find it extremely coincidental that media outlets are 'accidently' getting bombed.

Of course it's dangerous, but they weren't at Saddam's headquarters when they died.

Re: Death by Sadness
blisslessly

I'm too tired for tact this morning. And to be honest, I have no idea if I'm speaking for the rest of this little troupe here, but I think I might be. Have you noticed that you're the only one initiating these little political forays? A few more may engage, but it seems only when provoked, as manniac seems to have been. So to immediately jump on his case because he's got an opinion of recent events that differs from yours seems incredibly rude and slightly ridiculous.

As to the content - I've completely stopped reading your posts if they have anything to do with politics. I don't come here for that, and I'm guessing that none of the others do as well. The things you've said have been based on your own interpretation of your own biased sources. You see, there are no unbiased sources of news. Not a possibility. That's okay. You're entitled to your opinion. But what disturbs me is that you've made it clear that you're completely unwilling to listen or entertain a point of view that differs from yours. So please explain to me what the point of these little rants of yours is.

You need to understand that to me at least, your incredibly anti-American sentiments are extremely offensive. That, coupled with your obvious unwillingness to engage in meaningful debate about such subjects, and finally the fact that this place is, for me, a refuge from such things, leaves me with one option, and that is to simply not engage with you at all.

I think you have quite a bit to offer here. But the political statements aren't what I'm looking for here, and I'd venture to guess that I'm not the only one who feels that way.

Wurdulac sits with his knees tucked to his chest on the other end of the island from DJ and Blissless. The sun is just starting to fade from sight to the left of where he sits.

No one is around, near as he can tell. He's never sure how he can tell that, nor sure why that is. It just seems to happen.

*Sigh* Why must people act the way they do? Is it not enough to live and let live? We're dying as it is, no need to hasten the inevitible. Death shall claim us when it is ready, we shall have neither a second more, nor a second less than it is willing to grant us. The least we can do in this short time is try and find something worth living for...so where is mine?

Wurd sits alone, knees tucked to his chest, staring at the ocean. The waves crash quietly against the shore, and yet he sits longer, remaining long after darkness has engulfed the island.

We are all alike in that we want to be different.

That which does not kill us merely leaves us wishing it had

Re: To Manniac
Al-Jazeera was bombed twice, first in Kabul and the in Baghdad. Coincidence? The Russians were bombed twice, first their embassy and then their fleeing convoy. Coinicidence? As we speak, further atrocities in Iraq are taking place. While the 'liberators' are stationed to protect the Ministry of Oil, they leave the univesities, schools, museums, and hospitals to be looted and burned down. How can they let that happen? It shows where their true intentions are, don't ya think?

I couldn't agree more with the freedom to express ones opinions about the war, blisslessly, but it appears the majority here come here expecting a "war-free" zone. The CSB, as DeShaz points out, welcomes debate on these issues. Here's a topic in line with your thoughts:
www.cybersoapbox.com/csb/viewtopic.php?t=2743

This island of the U&D appears to be, for many, a refuge against the unpleasant realities of real life. If motivated by an issue, members from here can be found in other forums debating - sometimes fiercely - only to return to this escape to put their weary artists feet up.

Your powerful emotions may be steered to debate or to create - this is simply an avenue to come down when driven to create.
