so what courses did you get?
well, when i saw that letter from governor's school, i pretty much attacked it and frantically searched for where my courses were.

course 1: masters of light: secrets of great filmakers
course 2: fee-fie-fo-food

i got both of my number 1 choices, woop woop. and im really psyched about that film class.

so post what courses you got!

Course 1: Visual Art: Longitude, Latitude, Attitude

Course 2: Where are you now? Plotting an Atlas of Identity

I got my two first choices, too, though I had a lot of trouble picking my Course 2. I kind of wish we could take more classes.

I have no idea what to expect! :run

Re: so what courses did you get?
Hey everyone, this is my very first post.

Course 1: Digging on the Shoulders of Giants
Course 2: Atlas of Identity

I am excited about both, and it is good to hear that more people are doing the same ones I am. (Even though it was bound to happen anyway:lol )

I got the food one...Fee Fi Fo Food. I'm so excited. I love food it's one of those things that makes life worth living.
Anyways my other one was art so that's given. I'm really excited about that one too though because art is one of my other favorite things. :grin

My courses...
#1: Beyond Barney: Learning and Unlearning About Ourselves and Others

#2: Picking the Giant's Brain: Subtext and Doublespeak in American Culture

I think what attracted me to the Giant's Brain course was the use of the word "doublespeak". I'm a huge 1984 fan... though I just looked it up and apparently the word doublepeak wasn't actually used...ok, but that's beside the point. Afte reading the discription, I was definitely hooked.
And the Beyond Barney one sounds incredibly interesting.

1984
o0o thats awesome that you like 1984. i love to read dystopian literature, and if you liked 1984, you should read "we" which was the inspiration for "brave new world" which was inspiration for "1984." also, "the giver" and "a handmaid's tale."

Re: 1984
My AP students are immersed in Ayn Rand for summer reading. Hopefully, they'll feel the same way that both of you do about dystopic lit...not exactly beach books, but full of great conversation starters. We tied in a bit of "V for Vendetta" last time around.

Re: so what courses did you get?
Hey! My name is Erin and I go to Hylton in Woodbridge. I haven't posted yet, but I noticed that a couple other people had the same courses I do so I figured I might as well. I'm a HUM student and I'm really excited about Gov School b/c I used to do something similiar at UVA.

Most of the other people from my school are doing VPA so I thought I'd see who was in my classes...

Course 1: Digging on the Shoulders of Giants
Course 2: Are You Necessary?

The first one was my second choice, but it looks awesome anyway...

See you in July!

I'm Katie by the way. I got

Course 1: Foreign Policy
Course 2: Atlas of Identity

Both were my first choices and it sounds like a lot of you guys are in one or the other. I can't wait for classes to start. I had the hardest time choosing my course 2 so I have a feeling that they will all be awesome.

Re: so what courses did you get?
now I'm REALLY worried. Everyone got all their stuff in the mail, and I haven't gotten anything! I filled out my course selection online only and didn't send it back in the mail. Did I make a mistake?? I'm so worried...

re: 1984
Yeah, I'm a huge fan of 1984 and Brave New World. I kinda clump Fahrenheit 451 with those two as well. I own "We" because I read about it when I was reading 1984 a whole bunch, but I never got around to actually reading it. Something about reading translations from Russian kinda sketched me out.
Yeah, but brave new world and 1984 are two of my favorite books, 1984 more so. Haven't read the giver or a handmaid's tale, but I have heard of them both.
Good to know there's another 1984 fan. :grin
