on releasing deities in a ritual.
On Releasing Deity
By Cara
As we invoke, so we devoke. As we call for help, we thank for help. As we turn to the Gods and invite them into our sacred space so shall we say farewell at the end of our ritual. We spend so much time asking for their assistance, that it’s only natural to be polite and spend time thanking them as well. Releasing and thanking deity for being present and lending their energy is very important. This, along with releasing the quarters, is part of letting go of the energies in our ritual or spell to provide more focus for your intent and add closure to the work.
We never command deities to leave. We give them the choice. We tell them to go or stay as they please. Thanking the deity can be done as simply as saying "Lady and Lord thank you, hail and farewell" or "Goddess and God, thank you for contributing to our rite, go if you must, stay if you will", to as complicated as you need it to be.
In general the formula is :
1. face your altar
2. hold your hands together as if in prayer
3. State your magick name
4. thank the Goddess for presence and contribution
5. Salute and farewell
6. Repeat for the God or other deities that were invoked into your circle if there are.
Example: Father Sky, Mother Earth, creators, center of being, thank you for letting yourself be known to us and for your aid in this magick space today. Please go if you must, stay if you will.
Example: I, (state your magick name), thank the God, Goddess, for watching over and helping in this ritual. May you go in peace, or stay in peace. With light and love and blessings to all and to each.
