opinions on my paper topic?
Hi all. So, the deadline for the HP conference I posted about has been pushed back a bit, but I still need to get my paper written...must not wait for the very last minute! :lol

So anyway, the papers are only supposed to be ten minutes, so about five pages tops, and its a more informal conference. Here's my idea---I was thinking of doing a comparative analysis between the ending of GoF (specifically, the Priori Incantatem chapter where the shades of Voldemort's victims emerge from his wand) and the ending of Shakespeare's Richard III, which is really similar. On the night before their big battle, Richard III (really bad guy) is haunted by the shades of his past victims, while Henry (good guy, future King Henry VII) is visited by the same shades, who comfort and encourage him.

Now, I'm not saying JKR ripped of Shakespeare or anything, but I just want to look at the two uses of otherworldy intervention on behalf of the good character/side.

Any thoughts, opinions, or suggestions? If you think it sucks, let me know, I'd rather read it on a message board than have people thinking it when I deliver my paper!

I think it's a great topic.
Shows how ever modern media can be heavily influenced by older media.

Makes you wonder if JKR had that thought in the back of her mind when she wrote GoF.

Smile, it makes people wonder what you're up to!

I think it's a great idea. You can almost tell what authors Rowling has favored or studied by reading HER books. It's easy to pick out so many plot similarities...not plot rip-offs...just plot influences, if you will.

She was clearly a Shakespeare fan (as well as Austen and Tolkien). I think your paper would be fascinating to read.

Definitely a good topic.
