prayers and rituals to use in everyday practical magick
As Valenstar requested...

to start off practical magick...

Hail and Welcome

Welcome to my kitchen....sit down... let me make you a cup of something

warm and tasty...
I have some fresh sweet rolls for us to share... as the sunlight streams through my
windows...to make the dust fairies dance

Not the picture one expects
when they think of the word" Witch" is it?

But it should be... magick is not limited to the circle with cup and flame in the moonlight with all
pomp and circumstance.... it happens here too...in my cozy kitchen.. with little more than what
is already here.. and wonderful things take place...Welcome to the world of the kitchen Witch...
and simple magicks for home, hearth and family... and friends.
A few I have found, A lot of mine...enjoy.

One of my favorites is called the thread charm....
its a Witchy version of a dream catcher...ya might say, and its a by product of what we do anyway. When you are sitting at the table with a stack of clothes to mend and have the sewing box out...

You know the snippets of thread at the end of a sewing job?...
That we generally toss out being too short too use...take a small jar ( like the kind we put oils in ) and one at a time, place these short threads in it saying words like,
" thread charm, protect from harm "... or words to that effect.. it is the Will that matters..not the words... and when the jar is full..cap it with a pentagram drawn
on the lid...and hang it in the rafters or room center...to ensnare any evil that may come your way....

And makes a wonderful gift for a new baby
to hang on the ceiling above their crib... :)
Tie it well, dont want it coming down to become babys new rattle :)

* From " 'Wheel of the Year" Pauline Campanelli* Great book...!

Charms and Ritual:
There are so many of these in many great books... that rather than try to quote them all here... I will instead give some examples that I created and use.....so you
see something new... :) I hope it serves

Feel free to use your own words....as the Will ...not the words are what matter..
mix and match and customize as you see fit...

Peace charm...
A bit of cloth from some old clothes worn by the person to whom you want to bring peace .. a pinch of salt, a dash of rosemary, some string from the junk
drawer, and a marble you found under the table ( any object will do...but round
things tend to work best.. as the herbs and salt move around the object..they polish it...blessing it over and over while it draws the unease away from its target.)

Cut a square of the cloth and laid it out with a blessing... do they need mental peace?..., freedom from stress?, peace of the heart? the soul? what will bring them
peace? This you ask in your Gods/dess name....I add runes stitched on them ..according to what they need.. but do what you will....if you feel adding runes or
pentagrams or other holy writ is helpful then by all means.. :)

Take the object and bless it... "object round, tossed in thy salten sea...take the harm away from he/she" over and over until you feel the charge within.....
I like rolling it around between my hands to do this,
and place it in the middle of the cloth

Add salt and rosemary with words like...

Salt be thou cleansing to my_______
Rosemary be thou healing to my _______
Pick up all the corners making a little sack.. and twist it a little
Tie the sack with the string saying...

Bound be their unease I pray thee

Tie it again.... Bound be their pain I pray thee

Tie it a third time.. Bound be all harm with this little charm...
So mote it be....

Now place the charm on them or near them... under the pillow is good..in the car is another...around their neck is best of all...

Thank you Match stick:

Match I light, my stove make bright, warm and cheery is the flame Bit of tree whose gift to me... is a wonder to my sight...
Before I toss you in the trash, I marvel at this gift that lasts
Return to earth sweet bit of wood
and thank the Mother for thy good.

My own creation... too often we use such things without considering the living thing from which they came..
it is meet we give thanks once in a while..

Cleaning out the Junk drawer:

An occasion for happiness..... she's gotta be kidding right.... nope not at all.. even such a tedious task ,as tackle the mess in the junk drawer ,is an occasion for
magic.... try it this way and see if you don't agree... ?

Look at this mess !
Everything in the world is in there
Dump it out on the counter
Look at this mess !

Something rolls to the floor...
A button off of babies coat...baby! she is 4..
she doesn't even own the coat anymore.. :)

Bottles of glue, pins that push, paper , pens and tape...
Is this drawer or desk.. it is both just like life...

So that's where the pretty fob for the ceiling fan chain ,
that my mother gave me went ! :)

Tools and tacks, wire and twisty ties, screw drivers and pliers
Is this drawer or tool box? it is both..just like life

Hey here is the key to the memory chest...
goodie I thought I had lost that ;)

Fuses, outlet adapters, extension cords and all things electrical Is this drawer or power station.? it is both.. just like life

A picture of my sister, how did that get in there.. :)

Spare belts for the vacuum, old phone cords and speaker wire
Is this drawer or nest of snakes.. ? it is both just like life

The bracelet of twine
the youngest made for me in class..
last year :)

Manuals for the dryer, the toaster, the blender..
which I haven't read..Is this drawer or library?
it is both just like life

An old party hat...left over from child's 4th birthday,
she's 6 now.. :)

A ton of broken things with parts missing...
Is this drawer or way stop before the trash can ?
it is both just like life.

Its all back in now...the wires neat... the manuals stacked, the paper and pens
in a box, the electrical doss bagged, the trash thrown away
and the drawer is neat again...

On the counter still is a stack a memories...bits an pieces of life stashed away in the drawer in the rush of daily life and forgotten... The junk drawer is our dear friend in that it will hold all the bits until you are ready for them and then serves
you up precious memories... in the middle of a task you put off....it gives you a gift for your pains...

A smile for all the times it holds along with the junk.

This a prayer of thanks for the Junk drawer I came up with once after cleaning it out and marveling at the stack of memories it had served up for me and all the things it kept safe for me,until I remembered them...
thanks junk drawer.. :)

..Ok ... I needed a break for moment..
now..where was I? Oh yeah...

Kitchens are the space for making food...which is a form of magick in itself.... Herbs can not only flavor our food they can also make powerful magick you serve
up with the bounty of the Mothers harvest...

My own creations...feel free to use as you will...

Salt for savor...be blessings favor...
( salt that purifies )

Rosemary to remind me of all the things behind me....
( rosemary is for remembrance.)

Sage be wise of evils guise
( sage is the herb burned for clairvoyance )

Garlic clove of moons delight be thou warder of things that fright
( the vampire bit...they stole it.. )

Onion with your potent scent ward off the way of ill intent
( this too hang a bunch up to gather ills )

Ginger both hot and sweet remind me that life's a treat...
( Ginger stimulates the mind and body )

Peppers to heat up the night make my love life wild and right...
( yep they are aphrodisiac...)

Basil green mans delight make the magick work out right...
( best adjutant herb for healing..)

Parsley my hearts best friend, make the world right again...
( the stuff to adorn the plate we should eat...
very good for the heart.. )

Thyme to bless, Thyme to heal , Time to make the evening meal...( just as it says...time heals all.)

Clove bud with four corners right, remind me to hold my loves tight...( cloves are
the unopened flower of the tree knocked off before they get a chance to open.,kiss your loved ones..tommorrow is promised to none... )

As you can see...very practical magic indeed...
asking the herbs to do what they would do for us anyway...
we are just adding our power to the herbs .

And there are many many more....but these are some of mine. Cook up your own chants to cook by and serve up a little more than just food next time the family sits
down to table

Purification while washing up...

All kitchens get dirty... the dishes.. the floor.. the stove.. its one of the messiest places in the house.. and has to be cleaned... next time you clean the kitchen
or anywhere else try this... to bring a little more
than just a shiny counter top to your world...

Plate that holds my food,
I am in a dirty mood...
As I wash you simple plate,
take away my dirty state...

Simple cup all coffee stained..
Where is the peace I sought to gain?
As I make you shiny and new...
let my soul be renewed too...

Silverware who is sliver no more...
remind me what life is for...
dirt does not make you less...
remind me that all can be blessed..

Pots and Pans that break my nails...
with your stubborn stains & such
When you shine.life is mine..
renewed and ready for much

Counter top all cluttered and dirty...
way station for all manner of things
Let me clean myself as I clean you...
and see what the renewal brings..

Tacky floor all covered in crud..
My life has been dragged thur mud..
Hot water, soap and mop will do for you...
Let my life be cleaned too...

Stove top messed up beyond repair,
feels like my life spattered and worn layer by layer
I peel away the dirt...
and get back myself free from hurt

Water to wash, soap to clean...
the finger prints left by my off spring...
I curse, I rant, I rail... do remind me water...
they won't always BE there.....
(they grow up, and out and gone, and you miss
the hand print on the wall )

You can see the trend here....wash the house...wash yourself...and make both new again... it can make doing the drudgery of houseworka ritual of cleansing for yourself..and the house... create your own at need..
or use mine.. feel free and blessed be....

Sweets to the sweet:

I don't know about you... but I Love the sweet stuff...when Im in the mood...... cakes, cookies, sweet roll's, pie and candy. We have all made them, and have our family faves..

Next you make your favorite recipe
try this and serve a little more than sugar and spice...

For stirring : bubble bubble toil and...

NAW... sorry I couldn't help myself... LOL
now where was I ? oh yeah...hehehehehehehehe...

Stirring: Round and Round sweet mixture go, spoon of wood to crockery bowl,be uplifting for the soul....

Dropping mixture to cookie sheet: Drop down free, cookie that is yet to be, sugar , honey , flour and spice, your sweetness makes the day nice...( this is weather
magick as well as charm them for extra savor and who hasn't up and decided to
make cookies on a cold dreary day.. )

Rolling out dough: Floured board, rolling pin, squeeze out the negativewhile making thin.

Pouring: Pour out sweet flavor, fill to the brim the cup of savor, rim tight, rise right and share the Gods favor.

Chopping nuts: Seed of tree, blessed nut,
Natures bounty just for me.

As you can see each act of creation can become an act of blessing and joy...
now lets have some goodies.. :)

In this ceremony, a priest chants words and sentences
that are insulting to the goddess and then destroys the insults
by ripping hempen strips. This exposes the problems

Re: prayers and rituals to use in everyday practical magic
Whazz's Up ? :)
or
Making Magick from the mundane .. Pagan Style

Image

This strange looking little follow is an Owlet ...
At that oddball stage somewhere between a chick
and an Owl, so he looks like something off the movie the Hobbit :)
But he's quite a real little critter ,in his own little tree,
thinking his own little owl thoughts ..
like looking at the person who took his picture ...
Trying to decide if the person is something to eat ..
or something that will eat him ..... he's a bird ... his thought range is limited to here/now

The human being who took the shot however is not
Mind you .. this was not a staged thing ..
some un-named forest ranger ...took this picture ... on a , "record the wild life ", tour ...

But look at how he/she did it ? Any shot that showed they had a new owlet would have done ... for the record .. but this man/woman wanted more than that ..framed perfectly.. focused beautifully ..with a subject that could bolt off at any second I am an amateur photographer myself and I know the kind of careand effort it took to get such a shot of our funny looking little friend Mind you .. you are seeing it just as I found it .. No adjustments

Now .. I didn't bring you here just to tell you a tale about a picture, so Whazz's Up ? Right ? :)

No your right .. its about the person and the care they took
that matters here .. I found many such images as part of the
public domain from the Forestry service,
and was stunned at some of them

Now most of them are what you would expect ..
quick shots of this and that .. that THEY know what they are
but you or I, haven't a clue :)

Then ya come across something like this .. and some even better

Now some of it I am sure is just a matter of love of photography ..but what made the difference ...? I am sure the boss didn't tell them" go out and get me some images of the new wildlife ..and make em pretty "I cant picture em saying that :) .. so most went out with a camera and dutifully shot frame after frame of pictures for the records .. most of them boring .. but some ..are like the above

The Difference is .. what is Sacred ..deserves more care

Every day we are given the opportunity to make the mundane, Marvelous ..as this person did with fluff ball up there ... :)

This person wanted to show the Owl's beauty, as well as its existence To show the majesty of Nature at work ... making it an act of worship Everyday we have the same opportunity at anything that we do Don't think so ?

Kitchen magick ... making food .. cleaning your house ..
all can be acts of grace and Sacred .. taking a bath ..
there's a good one for ya

Paying the bills, a small blessing on each letter that leaves your hand so the recipient will gain some increase in their life
and not just the money you just sent them :)

If I really need them blessed .. I write runes where the stamp goes or under the gum flap before I close it ... a little dash of salt in the envelope .. you would be surprised at some of the things that happen when you treat simple correspondence this way

When you enter the doorway to work .. bless the door .. so that all who enter it .. will be blessed too ... do this often enough you will get a charge just going to work ..
now wouldn't that be a change of pace ............

When I kiss my loved ones good-bye ..
I bless them too as they leave me
I didn't used to do that .. until I lost My son ..
my mind ranges back to the last time I saw him ..
which thankfully was with a hug and I love you
But since his passing ... I now bless em all ..
as tomorrow is promised to none

Even on my E-mail ... my little tag line I made up
Blessings on your coming.......
Blessings on your going .........
Blessings on all your house ....

Now for me .. that's not just a cute line I came up with
Its a real Honest to Mother Blessing for any and all
I send it to .. its even on the bottom of the main page

You will see similar things all over the place on the site
they are very real .. very much intended .. acts of Magick
for the Mundane world .. for all of you .. who read them

Too often we think of Magick and blessing as a thing
just for Circle .. with pomp and ceremony .. which is great

But let us not forget the simple things .. which we can do anytime anywhere .. for any reason .. with no other tool than the Will

I am sure you can think up some on your own .. give it
a thought .. a few moments of grace and you will see
all the things .. that you could infuse with a touch of the Sacred

Blessings on thee and Thine

Blessings on your going
Blessings on all your house

Re: prayers and rituals to use in everyday practical magic
The everyday rituals got me to thinking about my "spices"
My Granny was the most important person to ever touched my life. It was threw her love that I learned to love myself and those around me, when she died i was devastated, we were going threw her things and I found her salt shaker. Old alluminum, bumped and bruised she had added this salt to literally everything, includeing desserts:nono (yeah i was way confused when i was told you shouldnt add salt when ur making pudding after watching her add her "salt" to it all those years)

Back to the Shaker.

I refused money and didnt participate in the bickering over her treasures I took myself to the kitchen disgusted and wondering how her lessons had missed all of these stupid people. My birth mother handed the salt shaker to me, for a change understanding that I had to have something and dont give a tinkers damn for money nor cost, i simply wanted a momento. I held it in my hands and heard a harder "Thump" then salt would explain.

I opened it and withdrew a very OLD OLD piece of paper, i unfolded it and read these words:

"I add this extra dash of love
and a simple pinch of care,
to fill your body and your heart
even when I am not there"

Now, my granny was a huge huge pentecostal christian, yet she cast this "spell" on every dish that passed her kitchen, even take out food. To this very day Im spiritually full of love and light when I remember her and her lessons.

I now add a dash from my own "salt" shaker into every dish I make... with my own "Spell Salt"

That's neat! :COOL

Do not fear the dark. Without darkness, there can be no light.

Do not meddle in the affairs
of cats, for they are subtle
and will piss on your computer.

Nor meddle in the affairs of
dragons, for you are crunchy
and taste good with ketchup.
