"for my pack,"
The silver streaked male walked noiselessly through the tall grass, nearing the edge of the trees. It wouldn't hurt to scope out the hunting lands, would it? Even if he didn't find anything, he would have at leasted got an idea of what they were like.

His silvery, black-speckled eyes surveyed the surroundings, ears swivelling to hear the brushes and chatters of animals nearby. His large white paw stepped down softly on the black earth as he eased forward, walking gracefully through the trees.

Suddenly, a scent caught in his nostrils, thick and pungent with taste to him. Instinctively, he lowered himself to the ground, still creeping forward until his eyes caught sight of the would-be prize. At the tree line, a buck stood grazing, ready to dart away at a moments notice. The deer's head shot up nervously as Ortesh froze in his position in the grass.

"Not yet," he thought. "... not just yet..." He was a very patient wolf, and would wait all day if he had to, but something about hunting made him think that he had to remind himself of this constantly. The deer’s nostrils flared for a moment before its head lowered down again and Ortesh resumed creeping closer to it.

Finally he was mere yards from it, ready to strike, yet he waited. He curled his haunches back, adding power to his rear appendages, and unfurled his body like a spring. The deer seemed to be moving in slow motion as it jumped, bolting away, but in two bounds Ortesh closed on the creature. His jaws closed tightly around the buck's nose and mouth as he used his own body to hold it down. After a few feeble attempts to breathe, the buck lay motionless on the ground.

Ortesh released his bloody muzzle from the deer’s mouth and lay looking at the kill. He couldn’t have even hoped for such luck. He was skilled, but the odds were still not good, hunting alone. He sniffed it, tempted to take his fill of the deer. It was his kill after all. But his mind wandered back to the alphess whom he’d met earlier… And her pups. His hunger subsided as he remembered them. He stood, wagging his tail at the thought of presenting it to her… and her happiness when the pack arrived as well. He lifted his head, loosing a wild howl into the air. “Come,” it said.

“My place has been in this world since the dawn of time,” he said. “And even after this body is frozen in the eternal wait of death, I will still be here in this world…”

Re: "for my pack,"
Deuce heard the call and stirred from her gentle slumber. She'd been lightly napping in the shade as the pups Gavin, Liam, and Angel played. Stretching, she mused on the call she'd heard, then realized it was Ortesh, calling the pack to food.

With a crooked smile, she urged her pups to where the howl had come from, already proud of her placement of the male. He'd already made her proud. Stretching again, she nudged the smallest pup, Liam, to get him moving. come, children. Ortesh has found food for us.

Arriving to where his call had arisen, she beamed pridefully at the male, who stood by the beautiful kill. She held back the pups for a moment, studying the male silently, her bi-colored eyes holding an unaccostemed warmth to them. Dipping her head in silent gratitude, she walked to the kill, tearing it open for the pups to get to the parts that were best for them, the soft innards that were full of nutrients enough to help them grow.

Lifting her head, she met the eyes of the silver streaked male. It is your kill, ortesh. You should eat as well. Taking a step to the side, she made the room for him to stand at her side, and she took a small piece, just enough to quiet the rumblings of her hunger. There were others to consider besides herself, after all.

Ortesh nosed the leg of the deer, taking in the thick bloody scent before looking back up at the female. He was surprised by her kindness. In his old pack, the alpha and pups always ate first, then it went on down the line.

Don't be meager on my account. He wagged his tail. You need to keep strength for the little ones. He watched them eating the insides rabbidly.

I'll be fine, trust me. He ripped off the hoove, thinking about the sweet marrow in the bone and gnawed on it, leaving the meat for the alpha. Besides, I'm sure there's other prey here if there's not enough. Go on, you should eat.

There's always plenty of prey, yes....but there are others in the pack as well. I want to be sure they too have enough. She watched her pups eat and playfully fight over who would have the best of the innards.

You do well here, Ortesh. I am very proud of you.

The words meant a lot... coming from her, and he knew he was appreciated in his new pack. He wonder how many others would show. He had killed it for all of them, but still he was curious to know how many wolves were his family now.

"I"m glad I make you proud,"
he said softly. "I understand, you only want what's best for the pack."

Polgara lifted her head at the call. While it had been a long time since she had been part of any pack the language remained the same. She slowly made her way to the place whence the call had came. A slight smile came over Polgaras' face as she saw the pups fight over the innards of the kill.

She slowly made her way down to the kill, not wishing to intrude on the feast occuring. "I hope I am not interrupting." Polgara said respectfully, waiting to be acknowledged.

Re: "for my pack,"
On the contrary, polgara. I am glad to see you, as well. It seems our pack has only gotten smaller. And yet the magestic Vista lands are flourishing since Luna has died. She spoke with a gentle smile, welcoming polgara to the kill. She stepped back, allowing the unfed femme to have access to the body.

She laughed softly as the pups picked up a discarded bone and began a gae of tug-o-war with it. Gavin pranced proudly, his golden tail held high. Liam, knowing his sister's distress over not being able to get the bone, tackled Gavin, taking the bone, relinquishing it to Angel when she anted it, then proceeded to protect Angel from her bigger brother.

Re: For my pack
Ortesh's ears turned as he noticed the voice of a new female entering the area and he instinctually rose to his feet, dropping the deer leg where he stood.

He sniffed at it a moment, then decided he was done with it anyway, and turned back toward the female.

"Welcome," he said. "My name is Ortesh. Please, eat... it shouldn't go to waste, and no one should go unfed." He smiled at her, walking over to stand by the aphess.

"Smaller?" he inquired. "What's happened to them? the members, I mean."

Polgara didn't know how to answer this males questions. Since she was new to the pack she didn't feel comfortable in answering any questions about the pack. "Thank you," Polgara said respectfully. Polgara sniffed at the kill, and tore off just a small piece to stiffle the hunger pains.

Polgara sat on her haunches and began to eat the small piece, all the while pondering her alphesses word.

Re: For my pack
We are a new pack, compared to Deadwood. The lands were once ruled by an alpess named Luna. Back then, the lands were called Stellar. One day, i found Luna...she had slipped and fallen to her death in the icy mountains. She bequeathed the Stellar lands to me and my pups....when I came, there was no one, only me.

She shrugged lightly, her eyes finding her pups. So here we are, trying again.

Re: For my pack
ooc. Sorry it's so short, I'm leaving the thread though.

"Oh, I see," Ortesh commented, turning toward the woods. His silver eyes scanned the trees. He could hear the pups playing at the kill behind him.

He looked back toward the alphess and nodded. "I think I'll be going now," he said, before turning away from her. There was nothing left for him to do there, except watch the others eat, so he figured he could go explore the lands. With that thought, he disappeared into the timber away from them.

Sorry so short

Polgara watched as Ortesh left, and was getting ready to go back to the pack lands. "Does one mind if I were to leave?"Polgara inquired. Polgara still being somewhat new to the pack had no idea what the proper etiquette was. However she was eager to learn.

Re: For my pack
(slight powerplay, sorry.)

The mother smiled. Help me take the kill back to the packlands, if it's not a problem. Then you are free to do as you choose.

She nudged the pups. Come, children, we are going home now. As they slowly got up, she lifted a leg of the kill, waiting for Polgara to grab the other side.

Once she had, the two of them dragged the kill back to Majestic Vista.
