spring approaching
Spring will be here shortly and I was wondering if anyone wanted to trade gardening tips and ideas
I didnt plant alot last year but really want to get into it this year again. just a thought.

Great idea!I know I always need help with odd little things when it comes to gardening.I seem to have a natural green thumb,but sometimes pests,and other strange goings on in the garden make me scratch my head wondering what the heck happened.One year,everything I grew looked incredible,except for my tomatoes.They failed badly,and I have no idea why,to this day.trading tips could maybe help us be able to figure out things like that in time to fix it.
You ROCK,Sherry!!!!(with that name,how could you not)

Cut worms are usually nasty little critters that do damage to tomatoe plants, there is an easy way to fix it, cut out small collars or sleeves to go around the base of the plant, they only have to be 2 to 3 inches tall and have room to go aroudn the stalk of the plant not snuggly so the plant has room to grow. It really does help.  Here is one that is good for shrubbery and trees , if oyu happen to make an apple pie or any dessert with apples save your peelings and boil them, take the juice when cooled and dumb it around your trees or shrubbs then water them as usual it puts alot of nutrients out there for them , this really works well for spruce and pine trees.

I don't know yet if I will be planting a small garden this year or not. I am thinking of a few tomato plants in pots near the doors, to help keep flies away.

I've got an area between my fence and the sidewalk, about 3 or 4 feet wide, and about 15 feet long on one side of the gate, and maybe about 10 feet on the other side, going up to the driveway. I was thinking of arborvitaes on the side farthest from the driveway, and butterfly bushes going up to the driveway....I may just plant it all with butterfly bushes.
Then again, I may change my mind after I see the prices...

There is still a blanket of snow on my garden.....What kinds of gardens do you guys have? I have a vegie garden, a couple herb gardens, a couple shade gardens. Went wild over heirloom tomatoes last year - YUM. I won't be able to plant for at least 6 weeks, but some of the perennial herbs are peeping bright green above the snow.

Upper Midwest USA. It's getting warmer - the big piles of snow are gone and only about half the garden space is still thinly covered.

I thought Michigans snow would never disappear!! But it did(as I am knocking on wood!) and it has been nice. Alittle overcast, but nice!!

I used to have a vegetable garden in my backyard until the oak and maple trees got too big and kept the sun from reaching the ground. I can't bear to cut them down. Now I have flower beds along the sunny side of my house filled with daylilies, daisies, and iris. I have another narrow garden with strawberries, a miniature apple tree (that yields about 40 apples a year!), and some herbs. I noticed that the butterflies and bumblebees LOVE the oregano flowers. I have a couple of lilac bushes that smell heavenly at each end of that bed. I have five rock gardens because I love rocks, two of them are planted with crocuses, blue bells, primroses, and daffodils, one has nothing but purple phlox and myrtle. One has a birch tree I planted the year my son was born, and low-growing shrubs, and more purple phlox. The fifth one has hens-n-chicks, coralbells, balloon flowers, and a few things that have just planted themselves there. Every year I find some way to increase the size of the gardens and add something more. (geez, i'd just LOVE to put some burdock out there some where.......)
