Stroumboukou doesn't sound romanian, nor greek to me. There is a name in romanian that resemble to yours, Strumbacu, but sounds a little different. Anyway, in romanian you can have all the names you want because usually they are derivatives from other words and don't have a special criterion of derivation and don't fallow a certain pattern. So anyone could invent a name in romanian. However is unusual to write using a non latin pattern (we do not use 'K' in our names.) Perhaps you should check on proto-slavic pattern. Ask bulgarians.

The name sounds aromanian. Romanian has strambu/"struhmbu" (phonetical aproximation - the middle "uh" is a closed sound which has no letter atributed in the english alphabet) which means "the bent one", "the bending one", it is the opposite of "straigth".

I think this is probably the ethymology of the name. The "-oukou" ending is written in latin form (romanian/ aromanian form) "-ucu". And "-uc"/ "-ucu", "-uca"/"oca" are common romanian suffixes, traced by linguist to the pre-roman substratum.
So I believe that is a sound aromanian name, with close cognates in romanian (daco-romanian).

P.S. Romanian "stramb" and it's aromanian cognate originate in the latin word "strambus".

Thats interesting. In Albanian the word "shtrydh" means to squeeze. There is another word however, there is "shtrenguar" which means the equivalent of "fasened" or "strenghthened"

I dont't want to start the new topic so I will ask here.Is Gheorghiu popular surname among

Romanians/Vlahs?I'm asking because that was my real familyname(from father side)before It

was changed to the nearest Polish equivalent and I'm very curious (currently trying to

find more detailed info- in parish books). That surname sounds actually like a name - is

that correct?

In Romanian is the verb 'a strānge'/a strīnge, strāngere/strīngere. That ā/ī difference is a sound that used to be wrote with ī and now ā is used a sound that is neither i nor a.

It comes from the Latin word 'stringere', in Romanian has like a lot of meanings like to squize, to gather, to fasen etc.
